Not going to be a good season next year. Carlisle relegated & we could be playing Millwall twice.
Make your mind up, man.
I think he means if Millwall come down we can historically write off six points and we normally get promoted at Carlisle who won't be in our league next season.
Just out of interest, what's our record like when Ali Maxwell's been on Charlton TV? I have a vague feeling we've not lost when he's been on, but can't say for certain.
always enjoy listening to him ... he knows his stuff
Thought what he had to say about Barnsley’s front footed style was very revealing. Think they must’ve been involved in some very entertaining matches over the course of the season because they do indeed love to pour forward and create chances…
but equally that does leave them exposed at the back and that’s definitely what we were able to exploit with long balls into the channels for May, Kanu and Aneke to chase down.
Agreed. They played a noticeably higher line second half which suited May and Kanu, those balls down the channels for them to chase worked well and even the little dink over the top was very effective. Meant we didn't have much of the ball but looked good when we had it.
Other thing I noticed 2nd half was with Chucks in and Ramsey off for REG we played more of a lop sided back 5 with Small starting much further forward and REG holding back. Chuks also played towards the left which allowed Small and Chuks to play quite close together and as our tallest and most physical attacking players they formed a great combination and outlet for the long balls.
Not a bad performance from any player in a red shirt.
But before the "we won't miss Dobson, time to move on" brigade arrive I'm just going to say again we will really miss him next year if, as I presume, he is gone. For most of the game he has put in a pretty near perfect performance for a midfielder at this level - plenty of determination in winning the ball allied with some beautiful passing and intelligent football - loved the dummy that led to Alfie's second goal. And the cross he put onto Kanu's head that Kanu headed over was perfect.
Whoever was responsible for not offering him a better contract should be shown the door.
Proper fight from all the players which was good to see. Hilarious seeing Barnsley lose their heads! Reminded me of when Luton came to the Valley under Bow and they all lost their heads.
Every player magnificent but special shoutouts to May (obviously), Karoy, Kanu and Small. Tyreece and chucks were excellent when they came on. Should have had 4 or 5 but just couldn't put them away. Was so desperate for May to get his hat trick!
Wasn't confident about Chucks with the Pen, think he's just desperate to score as he hasn't scored this season.
I believe Chuks did score a bullet header against Reading earlier this season.
What excellent game of football played by both teams .. the conditions were terrible which made our back 3 performance today as top drawer .. but it was a real old fashioned battle one we really should have wrapped up … but it’s 3 points and an excellent all round team performance.. …… the ref was shocking not sure how he gave the pen when he could not see it from where he was … but the team spirit today and playing for each other was top drawer
Just Barnsley's second defeat on the road all season... Hopefully this is the sign of building blocks being put into place for next season, as if we can carry this form into the 46-games next term then we could be a threat at the right end of the table.
Important thing is showing this form over 46-games rather than one or two
Could have been more clinical in front of goal, shame for Alfie May that he'd been subbed before the penalty. Equally good to see the effort from Campbell to win it in the first place, hopefully he's not lost to us just yet, what with being out of Contract.
Thought it was an excellent all round team performance. The back five all did well, good to see Ramsay back, missed him once he went off. The midfield three all did well, good to see Anderson back, although both Cov and Dobbo had good games think we need to sacrifice one for a more attacking midfielder. Kanu worked his nuts off again and Alfie's was a 10/10 performance. Good cameos from Campbell and Chuks, thought the penalty was a very good save as opposed to a poor pen.
However good we were today we still need a major summer overhaul to make us serious contenders next season. One decent performance can't disguise the fact we are far from good enough.

Don't tell them that, we need to repeat exactly the same mistakes we've made the last 3 seasons when we hit form at the end of the season.

Its probably hypothetical anyway as presumably Dobson's departure will decide the issue but I don't see why Dobson and Coventry can' t play together. Coventry is already playing the deeper allowing Dobson to get forward and around the pitch more. It worked pretty well today.
What we are crying out for is a classy number 10. Although Karoy played there today and his energy around the field was terrific, his final pass or awareness on the ball just means he's not cut out for that role at the moment. Hopefully that will come in time but he's really not ready yet.
Few more additions and hopefully next season we'll be right up there. Jones doing a fantastic job.

Not bad indeed.
Here’s a wacky out there thought. Maybe the biggest problem was mostly the previous manager, and not the quality of the squad overall.
In the last 10 games we’ve played 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. Yet we are 4th in the form table for it. Not quite sure a ‘rotten squad’ would do that well regardless of the manager.
Another question, do you still think Small and Ramsey are not wing backs?
I thought they were the better team on the ball 1st half but when May is on form your always in it, but the 2nd halfwe were terrific on and off the ball and bossed the game, it was a shame Alfie didn’t get his hat trick as he was outstanding today.
Friends watching on stream said the studio thought Hector gave away a pen second half, not given. Is that when all the kerfuffle happened? Was it a pen?

At the end of the season and we're still 'in form' 8 points behind Lincoln and 6 points behind Portsmouth in those 10 games.
But yes this squad is definitely finishing top next year.
Same mistakes every season.
Potentially our worst league position in decades but the squad is definitely great and we don't need additions!
Enjoyed the win, shame people have to be obsessed and wait for the 1 win in 5 games to start talking nonsense and tagging me in it.

Can't remember the last time I came away from The Valley wearing such a smile. We played really well against decent opposition and got a deserved win. I'd forgotten how good the feeling was. Son and I both agreed to renew our STs. In reality, there probably wasn't that much doubt, but it felt like it after Stevenage. Got a feeling we could at long last taste some success with Jones at the helm.

Thought we were lucky to get away with one in the first half.
It helped they were open and tried to beat us. They have only lost once away before today and it was a very promising performance for us. I don't think anybody can say we didn't deserve the win but 2-1 was about right. 11 games unbeaten from the point we were under Appleton. At half time away to Derby we were in the relegation zone and now if we don't lose on Tuesday, that is a quarter of a season unbeaten. Lots of credit to Jones and the players.
Few more additions and hopefully next season we'll be right up there. Jones doing a fantastic job.

Who said anything about us finishing top? Why does it have to be so extreme with you.
You waited until we drew a couple of games, even though we are one of the most form teams in the league at the moment - having pretty much played most teams in the top 6 to claim that we have a ‘rotten squad’.
Do you think the squad was the major problem or that the previous manager was?
Also, you seemed to miss my other question. Do you think Small and Ramsey can’t play wing back?
I think it's reflective of how shit this season has been, that it doesn't matter what Charlton are put in front of me at the moment I am bored within 15/20 mins of the game starting. No different today.
I feel utterly disconnected from the club and this team. Probably doesn't help that I can't be bothered to go to the Valley and watch all the games on Charlton TV.
Increasingly wondering whether the 44 year love affair is over?.
Played pretty well today, but think the ref missed two penalties for them, both "conceded" by Hector. Shame May hit the post and wasn't on for the penalty, I am pretty sure Aneke has missed the last 2 he has taken now?
IMO we are still 3/4 players short of genuinely challenging next season.
Few more additions and hopefully next season we'll be right up there. Jones doing a fantastic job.

It’s anything but a great squad. As you point out worst league position in decades tells its own story. Yes we were under achieving but seriously this current crop of players are just top half and if as you suggest we don’t need additions then forget promotion. Luckily I’m 100% certain that NJ leans towards my view rather than your rose tinted view. Good performance today at times but let’s not kid ourselves we’ve looked pretty average recently. Not decrying the turnaround achieved by NJ. He’s given us all hope.

I agree that the only ‘form’ table that matters is the 46 game one. I think it is encouraging that Nathan has got a mediocre bunch punching above their weight recently. But there is no way this group is even making playoffs without significant additions
