  • Worth going to The Valley just to watch this guy celebrate a goal. Terrific energy in the moments after we have scored.
  • What’ll be really interesting is whether he keeps his place or if Jones brings Ramsay back. While Small isn’t a natural winger, he’s still a bigger attacking threat when it comes to taking players on and getting crosses and shots in compared to Ramsay.

Ramsay’s the better overall player and very solid defensively, he’s also good on the ball but he always seemed to prefer to cut in and pass than go down the line and cross.

I wouldn’t be surprised if at times we see Ramsay as the RCB with Small RWB, especially if Jones or Mitchell are unavailable.

Or Edwards LCB and Small at LWB
Potentially, but we might lose something that way round rather than on the right where Small cuts in.

Won’t know until we try though, as Leaburn’s hold up play and more passing into midfield are also factors in our improvement.

Agreed. Jones played Ramsay a lot at RCB in preseason and given how effective having Small there has been it wouldn't shock me if he took advantage of Ramsay's tackling ability and recovery pace to push Small even higher at RWB and trust Ramsay to bail us out on turnovers
  • I’m surprised by how successful he’s been on the right hand side. I think the coaching staff probably have been too, given that they tried a couple of alternatives before trying a young player on his weaker foot
Tried it against Huddersfield and it didn’t work. Bit of luck maybe with the illness at Northampton meaning we had to play TC up front instead of RWB, so that opened up a spot for small
  • Played himself back into form, another we need signed up to a long term deal

  • He still blows a little hot and cold in terms of his end product but I would argue he’s the most import player to this kind of lopsided 532 we are playing. Ramsay won’t get up and down the line in the same fashion, imo, although with the right coaching he may have it in his locker. The way Small can attack and defend equally well, maybe even is better in attack than defence, allows TC to stay wider on the left and high up the pitch, which in turn means there is less pressure on Edwards to provide attacking width and means he can play more like an overlapping full back than an out and out wing back. That means Coventry can focus on covering the space behind Small and Doc can push forwards more knowing the left side is covered by Edwards and Gillesphey. TC pushing wider makes a bit more space for Berry to support Leaburn and pickup second balls. The shape we are playing is getting more out of a whole host of players but I feel like it would all collapse a bit without Small tying up the whole right wing on his own. It’s been especially impressive considering he’s naturally left sided because he hasn’t looked uncomfortable on the right at all.
  • JBG played on the right side a lot and he is left footed, scored a few from that side too. Probably the best winger we’ve had since the Prem days so glad to see Small doing well in a not too different way of playing.
  • His pace makes a huge difference!
  • Great pace great energy but sadly no final ball and that's what lets him down
  • I am a tough audience, but I thought TS was superb today and great to watch.
He gambles, and I like it, ok so it doesn’t always come off but it makes the footy watchable.
Playing against him, Tyreece and Leaburn in the same game will give opposition managers and defences nightmares. Our midfield players will need to put some extra shooting practice from 20 -30 yards out because those three together are going blow to pieces any defensive plans to stop them and open up opportunities if Nathan can keep that core 11, or as much of it as possible, together for as long as possible.
  • This “Longer deal under discussion “ is dragging on a bit, get the deal done Charlton ffs.
He’s got an agent in his ear, one guess who the advice benefits most.
  • I love his personality and passion. He did need to calm it down in the last few minutes yesterday, as he gave away the ball a few times trying low percentage passes, rather than just trying to keep possession.
