I think most people around the world wouldn't even know about the auction and even if they did have more pressing issues to concern themselves about.5 -

It’s not obscene, it’s payback. Some guy thinks he has got unnecessarily extremely rich on the back of ultimately selling stuff to others because another person has calculated his net worth on paper for him. He then has a problem of what to do with the money he’s accumulated and somebody helps him redistribute it by convincing him that a bottle of whiskey is worth that much money (& more because it it was bought at auction then there’s another cost in doing so). The whiskey will never be drunk and it will sit in a secure place until another rich guy comes along and buys it. But it does, reflect for me, that when society and our world is in such a mess, where people can’t afford to heat their homes or have to buy food at a food bank, and the unfair distribution of wealth, that, that money would go a long way into changing some peoples lives, rather than wasted on something so trivial!5 -

Turn that around and it means that about 97% of us only own about 3 %.
We need a major reset when it comes to wealth distribution but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.9 -
