This week, I am going to start by surprising you all. You will never guess what the Graveyard Prediction of the Week was. Yes, it was Charlton v Cray Valley Paper Mills. All 72 competitors that predicted this game failed to get the right result, never mind the score. To make it worse, most of the predictions were in the range of 4-0 to 6-0, although many thought the visitors would notch a goal.
@Lewis Coaches was spot on about Cray Valley Paper Mills scoring. However, expecting Charlton to rattle away nine times more goals than actually achieved did lead
@Lewis Coaches to gaining the Worse Prediction of the Week award. In truth, it was almost the lowest-scoring week of the season, just beating the first week's average of 1.23 points by 0.03, with so many games having unexpected outcomes. Some urgent building work was necessary to extend the size of the Noughty Step to accommodate the ten competitors who crowded onto it this week. I know for a fact that
@GoOnYouHaddocks will be absolutely gutted about having to stand on the Noughty Step. However, there are still 18 competitors who have never been on the Noughty Step. Although it was a gloomy week for high scores, two competitors stood out from the pack.
@Nicholas scored a very decent 6 points, although there are no prizes for guessing which game prevented a perfect 10. Not far behind was
@cafcwill, who bounced from a zilch score last week to gain a creditable 5 points. For
@Curbsgoldenera, it was the end of a golden era, as the streak of scoring 2+ came crashing to an end, which means that
@Nicholas and
@Scott share that honour with 7 consecutive weeks under their belt. Note that these competitors should not be confused with the ex-Tory MP, Nicholas Scott. As for the Port Vale v Burton game, no one fancied that. Looking back, 0-0 seems about the most obvious score of them all this week. Indeed, the only high-scoring game in the Prediction League this week was the Bromley v Blackpool cup tie, which ended 2-0 to The Tangerines. Thankfully, the replay against Cray Valley PM will be midweek, so we won't have to suffer predicting that game. Mind you, Gillingham v Cray Valley PM might need some careful thought.
