  • Wonder if it's a temporary thing while they've got an interim, or they have spoken to their new man and he recommended Hayes.

    New Man is Michael Appleton😀

It seems that they've appointed an interim to the end of the season, in Mike Dodds, so you imagine Hayes might be at risk in the  summer if a new person comes in and doesn't want him.

But that's football, you take the gigs where you can get them

Decent move for him geographically, and with Bonner in charge you'd expect them to be chasing promotion.

Peter Gill, one of our U21s coaches, has also joined Gillingham as first-team coach.

Their GK coach Deren Ibrahim was a very good player for Dartford, and then was an a Charlton academy coach. I always thought he stopped playing too soon

Why? I think Harris is a better manager than bonner and he didn’t get gillingham close
  • They were excellent defensively last season but awful going forwards.  They have already bought in Crewes top scorer and a creative midfielder so are sorting that weakness out and have money to spend.

If they'd kept him for the season, they would have done better than how they did under Clemence.

His 3rd job in 16 months since leaving us.

There's a big difference between academy coaching, where it's all about improving players, and 1st team coaching where results are what matters. I suspect he's back in his comfort zone now.

it's unfortunate he's having to drop 'down the ladder' since leaving us

That reminds me of the story that Steve Lovell, at that time a junior Charlton coach, told me about 15 years ago about one of his friends who was an age group coach at Millwall at the time.

At the start of the season all the Millwall junior coaches were brought into a meeting and they were told that results definitely weren't the priority and that their job was to get their players playing more football - no longer did they want to see the big bloke at the back launching the ball to the quick, big bloke up top. At the end of the season the head of the academy called Lovell's mate into a meeting where he was asked to explain exactly why his side had finished in the bottom three.

It is a bit like Dean Kiely joining their coaching staff. Only thing he really did at Charlton was beat Brighton (probably how he got the job at Palace) , so it doesn't really hurt that much.
