What absolutely shouts out from that is the number of players out of contract at the end of the season.

Unless they get signed up, yet another complete rebuild is on the cards.

    This is absolutely right.

On the one hand, it's concerning that, at the end of the season, nine players will (could) be out of contract, with six more returning to their parent club.

But, on the more positive side, it's good to put yourself in the position where you're not lumbered with L1 players if you get promoted to the Championship.

I like the glass half full rhetoric. Although, I totally get why there's plenty who think the glass is already empty, and smashed; the tap's not working; and the kitchen's on fire.

I imagine they will both keep their options open until the end of the season, see how the club management conduct themselves, see who the latest manager is and how they set up, what ambition is shown in January. Can't blame them. I wouldn't sign up unless I was convinced things will be much better in the next few years than they've been in the past few.

    Good work @Scoham

Would be interesting to know how long the loan players have left on their contracts to see if any might be available to sign next summer.
  • Options
Realistically, why would Dobson sign an extension if we continue to look like a basket case?
  • Options
Also I make it 21 players in realistic first team contention.

That's leaving out Chin, Fraser, Camara, Kirk, McGrandles and Aneke.

SF, PN and CA come back into contention when they are fit IMHO.

So at least three players going to be left out every week and a lot of potential on the bench.

Asiimwe and Anderson could probably do with a rest but neither deserve to be dropped while others will get knocks during the season.

Will be interesting to see how the manager balances developing our youngsters, uses the loanees so as to keep the parent clubs happy, has enough senior players to offer experience and leadership while doing  that winning games thing.

Miles needs a new deal too. A pay rise and extended deal will significantly increase his value if/when we sell him.

    That's how you manage starlets.

    Pay rise

    Security

But yes, he might want to see how things are in the summer

What other offers has he got on the table?

I would be suprised if he turned down a sensible offer.

Aribo walking away for nothing (some comp) should be the lesson going forward that we don't make again.
Up to the player and agent if they accept the offer if other options are out there.

Kirk and Anneke for 2 more years....

CBT must have his eye on a move. He'll never sign an extension with us.

Dobson might. Just had a kid and he's close to home.

Big season for Miles. 15-20 and he's off for a fee. 10-15 and we might hold on to him, but doubt he'll extend. 0-10 and he probably will.

I'd be looking at Bakrin for a two year extension. Think he's head and shoulders above Elerewe.
  • Options
Bakrin is an interesting one. He has captained the U21’s recently and played well, but has yet to experience the foot in both camps (plus a credible loan out as Deji had) that Elerewe has had.
So personally I wouldn’t say he was head and shoulders better than Deji until we find out some more about him.

Thank the lord we won't be losing Aneke in the summer. I don't know how we'd cope without him
