Zach Mitchell - Sept 2025 on a season long loan to Hibernian (p22)

Hibs fans on social media were shocked to see him dropped for the Hearts match after his debut performance. I think to write him off would be silly. He’s on his third loan now. The first at Colchester - good start, got injured then not fancied after that. His second at St Johnstone - good start, rated by their fans, got injured. His third being Hibs and we all know how that’s gone.A few years ago he was one of the brightest kids in our academy. Just a shame the last few years have been hampered by injuries.I just hope that Hibs haven’t played him for the sake of playing him, so that he’s less likely to be recalled. Had they of not played him, we would’ve been able to recall him and send him back out on loan. That being said, I think he will develop more warming our bench as opposed to warming Hibs’ bench, and let’s face it, we are light at the moment, so if we do recall him it would benefit us even from a training perspective.6

I suppose though the benefit of him warming pur bench if we are just going to say its a lost cause and give up with Hibs, is that he will be closer to home than up in Scotland warming their bench and developing with us leqrning how Jones wants to play.RugbyAddick said:Hibs fans on social media were shocked to see him dropped for the Hearts match after his debut performance. Could the reason he didn't play against Hearts is that we have already indicated Zak is returning?
If he is would he be available for the Coventry match?
Also would the U21 game he played for Hibs counted as his second club anyway?0 -

I was just wondering why he was dropped when all of the Hibs fans gave him a glowing review.
I was just speculating that a competitive U21 game would have counted as a second club anyway.
Iirc according to the much missed blog Dr Kish when Leon Best trialled with us a few years ago he never played for our U21's because he didn't want to breach the two club rule and a non competitive friendly was arranged against QPR to give him some match action before we signed him.1 -
On the bench again tonight.0

Addick Addict said:This is becoming like his loan to Colchester. Has been an unused sub in recent weeks and isn't even in the matchday squad for tonight's game:
Dylan Levitt (appendix) and Rudi Molotnikov (ankle) miss out while Alasana Manneh, Zach Mitchell, and Joe Newell have not been selected in the matchday squad.
So he hasn't played a single minute for the first team since he went on loan to Hibs and in the last 22 months he has started 8 league matches.
This was posted on 8th November. Since then Mitchell has either been not in the squad or an unused sub apart from that MOM performance in his one and only game, the one that has prevented Mitchell from now going on loan elsewhere. If the Hibs manager deliberately wanted to stifle his career, I'm really not sure what more he could have done. The sooner we get him back home the better.3 -
On the bench yet again. Mitchell clearly has to be careful what he says because he doesn't want to be seen as a bad loanee but the clues were there to be seen following his one and only appearance. We really do need to do the right thing because once AFCON finishes he might find himself permanently sitting in the stands!
Hibernian centre-half Zach Mitchell says he is "grateful" to have made his debut after a "frustrating" lack of game time since arriving on a season-long loan from Charlton Athletic this summer.
The 20-year-old made his first appearance on Saturday, laying on Martin Boyle's equaliser in Saturday's 1-1 draw away to Dundee United.
"It has been a frustrating period coming on loan and not being able to get the minutes that I would like but very grateful to have the opportunity to get on today and make my debut," Mitchell, who had a spell on loan at St Johnstone last season, said.
"As a Hibs player, that comes with a great amount of responsibility but also a great sense of pride with being able to wear that shirt today and I thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully more to come.
"Probably the aim of a loan is to get as many minutes as possible, but I think the learning can be done in other ways – on the training pitch, the manager and the staff have been brilliant and I have learned in many other ways.
"Perhaps that has not necessarily been on the pitch, but hopefully that can come from now and I will always be ready for these opportunities and I think it is always about being ready at any point, like today you never know what can happen, when you need to be called upon."

Sensible lad. I hope he's on the phone to CAFC asking to come back and we can tell Hibs to poke it.2

Zach subbed on after 52 mins6

Zach is only 20, bulked up since his injuries, played six games as a 17yo without embarrassing himself. He can carry the ball, is quicker than Burke and reads the game.
For me he has as much quality as Gomez or Konsa. He is wasted st Hibs.4 -
Even by your low standards, that is a ridiculous comment. Presumably Mitchell is yours and Fannys love childGisappointed said:Zach is only 20, bulked up since his injuries, played six games as a 17yo without embarrassing himself. He can carry the ball, is quicker than Burke and reads the game.

We’ve seriously let him down in terms of his development, but to say he was Gomez or Konsa levels is laughableGisappointed said:Zach is only 20, bulked up since his injuries, played six games as a 17yo without embarrassing himself. He can carry the ball, is quicker than Burke and reads the game.

Kilmarnock equalised on 57 mins after some supporters on twitter described “awful defending” but not by who.fenaddick said:Zach subbed on after 52 mins

Would have expected better from you.
Time will tell if your opinion of this talented young player was a valid one or whether you end up with egg on your face.
But to warn you, like an elephant, Fanny never forgets....3 -

Zach gets outmuscled to the floor by his man who also brushes aside Grant Hanley before sweeping the ball into the net1 -
God awful standard of football throughout that video. I have seen better in the National League.Callumcafc said:

No way on earth you aren’t a wum. Gomez was capped by England and playing champions league football at 20 - Mitchell can’t get a game for a shit Scottish team at 20.Gisappointed said:Zach is only 20, bulked up since his injuries, played six games as a 17yo without embarrassing himself. Slowly looking more and more like a Lucas Ness than an Ezri Konsa0
-
It was a poor goal to concede and shows my concern. Admit its hard to judge on a clip and not full matches but I have no concerns regarding his technical ability but his ohysicality does concern me.0

Its true still hasnt forgiven me for refusing to play out my contract, even though the club had messed me around. You can hear all about it on Under The Coah podcastFanny Fanackapan said:

Probably depends on how long Burke is going to be out for but would imagine we are definitely considering a recall now2
-
Id imagine (I have it on good authority) we are probably/definetly considering sogning a centre back. If Mitchell comes back it will very much be with the idea of him as a back up to the squad and develop at the club from what I have heard today. No decision has been made though.NabySarr said:Probably depends on how long Burke is going to be out for but would imagine we are definitely considering a recall now0 -
I would have recalled Zach on the 2nd January. Pointless leaving him up there, getting tiny amounts of gametime, which will only get worse when AFCON is over.
He could have been on our bench today, and come on for Burke.

Not sure NJ would have him in front of Gillesphey in the pecking order thoughkillerandflash said:I would have recalled Zach on the 2nd January. Pointless leaving him up there, getting tiny amounts of gametime, which will only get worse when AFCON is over.

Moving Bell away from the left was a disastrous decision. Gillesphey and TC as a pairing on the left just don't work.fenaddick said:

He will be a quality CDM at some point.0

Ironically I expect he would have got more minutes had he stayed here rather than go on loan3
