Robbie Robertson RIP

Guitarist and songwriter for one of my all time favourite groups.

So many beautiful songs, great lyrics and sounds.

Gonna be listening to the first two albums tonight for the 1000th time.

  • Very sad news, a true great.
    RIP
  • That's very sad. I've got a few of his solo albums from later in life including some Native American Indian albums.

    Donadaghovhi Robbie.
  • Wow - I watched The Last Waltz (again) on Sunday.

    One of my favourite guitarists.
    Only Garth still going now.
  • I picked up the best of The Band CD at a car boot sale last Sunday for 40p. Need to give it a play.

Known for having the one of the worst wigs in showbiz, he was also a fantastic songwriter.

    RIP
  • Don't know much about The Band but caught a retrospective on Sky a couple of weeks back that enlightened me about their history backing Dylan & also their solo stuff.

I expect tonight RR is somewhere down the crazy river.

    RIP.
  • RIP hopefully somewhere down the crazy river.
  • Jesus... I was just watching a 1978 documentary about Martin Scorsese "Movies Are My Life" last Sunday and Robbie Robertson appeared in the beginning (and the middle).

I've been reading "A Journey" which is a very decent biography about the great director and it seems the two were very close friends during the late 70's. They lived together for some time (and probably did coke together😂).

    Sad news. Rest in peace...🙏🙏🙏

  • RIP Hawk.
  • Joined this forum when Henry posted Levon Helm passed. Now Robbie one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Side 1 of The Bands 2nd album is flawless but I think this is his greatest song and quite apt at the moment.

  • Ahh, this is sad. What a writer and musician. RIP.
  • aged 80 ! .. a reminder of how time flies .. a pretty unique talent ..  R I P MR Robertson
  • possibly the better thread for this rather than the top Band tracks thread...

    RIP

saw "Once were Brothers" recently on TV. Possibly BBC, cant remember. Good documentary. They used this song near the end which is one of my favourites

the night they drove old dixie down.

if you cant see that documentary then just watch the last waltz. Scorsese directed. You can tell by how good the footage is below. (no stupid crowd shots and focused on the band instead.) edit: 10 to 15 seconds in for Robert just orchestrating.

took me years to appreciate how good these guys were. fucking love em now.
