So who are our new owners then?

Worth reminding younger Lifers especially that in the “golden 90s” *three* board directors lived abroad at the time they bought into Charlton with significant investment: Bob Whitehand (Gibralter) David Sumners ( somewhere up the Spanish coast from there, they were mates), and Mike Stevens (USA). Yet both Stevens and Whitehand were regulars at the Valley while David Sumners was a very open and patient contributor to Glynne Jones Mailing List ( the predecessor of Charlton Life).Covered End said:Ah, that explains why hardly any Charlton fan has heard of Gavin Carter.
He lives in Canada.

I think everyone cares mate it’s just some are in a state of shock that just maybe we might have a competitive squad this year and what seems to look like a sensible senior management team taking shape. Whilst there are a few others keeping quiet waiting for the 1st bad move before jumping on the barricades again 😂Dippenhall said:Suddenly no one cares

I always find it funny when a bunch of middle age fat guys make fun of how someone else looks on social media. Just take a look at the pictures of various lifers-we are one ugly group (myself included)17

there is a vague resemblance that has been harmlessly referenced. No mention of fat or ugly. Take one chill pill and the doctor will check on you in the morning😊Bostonaddick said:I always find it funny when a bunch of middle age fat guys make fun of how someone else looks on social media. Being pedantic but this thread is about our owners. None of those "tagged" own a piece of CAFC.
Would be nice for one of the big cheeses to make an appearance once in a while.....or are they all Trumponians and detest us limeys 🤷♂️0 -
Pretty sure they’ve been at multiple games this season but don’t make a big deal out of it, that’s how I like my ownersgolfaddick said:Being pedantic but this thread is about our owners. None of those "tagged" own a piece of CAFC.

They don't really care about us! Not once have any of them been on the pitch playing guitar, not even once! Theres enough of them around to perform as a band to entertain us. Just goes to show they are not really that interested.fenaddick said:

Honestly, I genuinely don't care. The serious money guys have always been pretty up front that they are in it as an investment and a project and not because they've always been fans of Charlton all along.golfaddick said:Being pedantic but this thread is about our owners. At least one of them cares enough to get their "man on the board" to start throwing a bit of weight around and seemingly what they are doing is working.
We all know they don't actually care about Charlton as an actual club and turning up to do a bit of glad handing and PR shite would be disingenuous at best.1 -
Good luck getting a return on this investment
Throwing good money after bad is 95% of football ownership2 -
Like any hobby really. It’s just scale of the hobby. Nobody needs to own a football club. its because you get something out of it. No sensible businessman would buy in the expectation of making money.oohaahmortimer said:Good luck getting a return on this investment

Although I agree mate I do keep thinking there must be something otherwise why would so many dodgy characters ala Mouthall etc want to get involved ?oohaahmortimer said:Good luck getting a return on this investment

As a side note obviously they are a weird case have a look at Wrexhams latest figures they have made significant sums but that’s a one off ofcourse however it does show it’s possible0 -

I don’t think Southall’s MO was to run the club sustainably to make money. It was purely to fleece the club as the money came in, without any thought for the long term. The club could’ve disappeared off the map for all he cared. Most businesses, even terrible ones, have a turnover that can be used without any regard for future bills.AndyG said:

Brener was in Boxpark after game22

What our owners will have discovered yesterday that you can have all the money in the world but life is about moments and Charlton will have given them a special moment yesterday. I would expect they want the taste of more.51

Both Brener and Friedman have a bit of cash behind them don't they?
In 2012 Jiminez lost the backing of Cash so we couldn't strengthen and ended up with Roland taking over mid season and selling Yann in January
2019 Roland had given up and only signed Gallagher on loan having lost Aribo, Bielik and Bauer
I do feel/hope this time might be a bit different6 -
According to Google Brenner has a net worth of $350 million & Friedman $5 billionBigRedEvil said:Both Brener and Friedman have a bit of cash behind them don't they?

Great to see the reaction to Brener from Jones, but also some of the senior players. Demonstrated a connection I didn't know was there and gave a really good feeling about the owners. Suggests they're more than just money men. Even better if he stayed around box park afterwards.44
