  • Think she might be taking a break at the moment but fairly sure @PrincessFiona could tick some of those African countries off. Have it in my head she posted before about working there a lot
I remember that, as I was in and out of the Middle East a lot then and seeing @PrincessFiona’s itinerary always made me feel better!

I can tick 1 more off Lebanon, these were included in the 63 I claimed, which actually was 69 when I through it properly.

Done a fair few of those. (Including Venezuela on a day-trip lol). But a question -  I drove through Yugoslavia to get to Greece many years ago can I convert all the places en route into their "new" country names?

I'm working on visiting all 50 US states (and DC) - at the moment I am missing just Alaska, Vermont, Delaware and Connecticut.
Done the same re Yugoslavia, Italy down to Athens and back up via Belgrade to Austria....I'd say you can 'convert'.....I do anyway.
Hey, when did you do that @HastingsRed?

I did my road trip with 5 friends in 1970 in a previously written off and repaired Bedford CA 12cwt van with the side panels cut out and replaced with perspex. lol.  The van was great fun - sliding doors which you could hold open with a leather strap - no seat belts of course.

The Yugoslavia "motorways" - the auto-puts - were something else basically cobbled streets with loads of donkeys pulling over-loaded carts.
    Jogs my memory.

1967 in my mate’s Austin A35 van. Our (crazy ? ) idea was to drive right around the Mediterranean Sea.
The Arab-Israeli war put a stop to that, instead we drove-camping to Tehran- Persia where my mate had Armenian friends.
Via a wet Austria into Yugoslavia, down the Dalmatian coast was highlight of the whole trip.
Big detour around Albania, to Athens.
Across Turkey via the Black Sea, what a massive country.
Eventually to Tehran & the Caspian Sea.

  • Curacao and Tahiti
  • Curacao and Tahiti
They’re not sovereign nations, which is the definition being used here (UN). They are officially parts of the Netherlands and France
  • I can tick 1 more off Lebanon, these were included in the 63 I claimed, which actually was 69 when I through it properly.
When did you go?  I fancy going Beirut - apparently a good night out these days (rather than back in the day getting your head blown off). Cruise in the area  probably the best way I suppose.
  • On a half world cruise late last year early this.

Damatian coast is pretty spectacular as are the Swiss and Austrain Alps.

Beirut was the place to go back in the 60's....bit before my time though.

  • My Dad worked in Sierra Leone for a few months back in 1964. Does that count?

(Useless Fact of the Day - Sierra Leone produced the World's first self-adhesive postage stamp that year.  It took Royal Mail another 30 years to catch up, although the Sierra Leone stamp was printed in the UK. The high humidity in SL caused regular stamps to stick together.)

I drove a Ford Sierra and had a girlfriend at the time called Leone. Does that count?
