Midfield - Crises ? What crisis ? (Thomas,Diawara,Fortune)

edited August 2007 in General Charlton
Now, I thought that at present we are at least one midfielder short, and a decent one at that. Ok, Samedo looked good against Braga and for me is a starter next week. Reid is also a starter alongside him in my opinion. After that we have Faye as back up. Ambrose in my opinion can't play there and to be honest i can't see where he is going to play. Sinclair, judging on Braga, is lagging way behind. And now Holland is out for six weeks. Surely another midfielder is priority. No, according to Pards another striker is essential and the midfielder can wait. In Pards I trust but on this occasion I think he's got it wrong.

Good to see that Thomas and Fortune are staying. So is Diawara as Bordeaux's offer is way off our valuation. Problem is will his mind be on the job. It may drag on but I reckon he'll be off sooner rathher than later.

  • i guess we have to wait and see....but for me our centre midfield has been my only real area of concern all summer. think we have the wide men to tear the league apart though, cant see any other ccc sides boasting better than reid, thomas, and ambrose.
  • I think Ambrose will be a great player at this level and can play in the centre. We have the money from the sale of Bent, Young, Romm and possibly Diawara to push the boat out and bring in a decent player. My guess is that Pards is awaiting developments at other clubs.
  • We do have the wide midfield players to shred most teams in this division in Thomas, Ambrose, Reid, Sam and Christiansen. However unles we win and the get the ball out to them they are of little use. Reid should play central with Samedo but we are SO desperate for another real quality midfielder. If Reid can`t stay fit (bad track record too !) then I believe we will be in serious clatty as far as midfield is concerned
  • the kieron dyer collapsed tranfer has probably fooked up pards plans

    bang on ledge.... i reckon...
  • According to the BBC newspaper round-up, Wham are trying to push the deal through again by offering £6m up front.
  • Having watched both the Gillingham & Braga games without a doubt the Midfield for scunny will be :-

    Reid Samedo Ambrose Thomas

The Portugese boy will do all the holding & Ambrose can do most of the forward stuff, I do not see this midfield as a problem at Championship level. I do share concerns though that we are a bit light in this area, but are still relatively strong compared with most teams at this level in my opinion of course.
  • Agree Ketters, but i think that we desperately need cover- It is very unrealistic, not that you are suggesting it, to expect Reid to play a significant majority of the matches this season.
  • But will Thomas be fit for Saturday?
  • Sinclair is a central player who if required could help out. He will only need a few games under his belt and he'll be okay.

  • I think our MF is OK. Wide I cant see many better teams, but agree that I'd like to see someone with some pedigree come into the centre such as Mullins.

The lad has proven ability at this level (never really pushed on in the PL) and, I hope, would welcome the chance to work with Pards again and stay close to home
  • We've certainly got midfield skill ,creativety and flair in abundance at this level.

But have we got enough steel and physical drive to carry us through if those boys get roughed up?

    Morning Stan,

Before Reid joined Spurs he played 30 games, 46 games and 25 games in consecutive seasons.

Hopefully his long rest without risking him will have put his injuries behind him and he CAN play a decent amount of games.

At first I read that as 46 games in 25 consecutive seasons.
    I need more coffee........
  • He just didn't like the premier league, a real lack of folk singing and a non existent demand for his podrain and guitar playing left Reidy disillusioned with the whole thing. Now we're back in the fizzies he can join all us jolly boys down the Oak after the game for a guinness and a knees up like he could at Forest.

Much more the mans cup of tea.

Andy Reid. Footballer and man of the people.
  • I think we will be about letting teams worry about us this year and can see us putting a lot of pressure on other teams. Thus hopefully removing need for to many defensive midfielders.

I also feel that we have a lot of strength in depth at the back and whatever 5 he picks feels they will be able to cope with most of whats on offer

So lets hope i'm right i feel for a good season come you reds

    I agree Danny/Pete 100%.

We should/will be the agressors in 95% of the matches this season.
  • It'll be good to see us take the game to the opposition - rather than sitting until we concede a goal and chasing the game.

Fair point- Better stats than i thought- don't suppose the Spudz would have parted with the silly money they did for him ( with Dawson) if they thought he was another Darren Anderton ( sicknote- wise)

Hope you are right- happily take huge amounts of "told you so" but for me the jury is still out.

i'm sure Reid will improve in the same way as Perry did when he moved to us.
