yes Fujitsu did get the contract to deliver an element of this, the majority of the work was done by the team who about 10 yards from me in GDSGreenhithe said:If the rumours are anywhere near true that Fulitsu/infosys got the contract for this then we should be outraged. No smoke etc I say.0 -
After the huge success of track and trace, I'm shocked we outsourced this job1

Me and the missus have discussed this and have decided we'll walk to the top of the road, open a bottle and watch the mushroom cloud of total death and conflagration roll in towards us over the sea.shine166 said:
Exactly this... also don't warn me that I'm about to be vaporised.Off_it said:It amazes me that people's natural survival instinct means they instantly think they WANT to survive a nuclear attack.
They should watch The Road. That will change their minds.
If we ever get a 10 minute warning, or whatever, then I'll be doing all I can to make sure I get as close to the expected blast as possible. Goodnight Vienna!
Obviously I'll update on here as it happens.2 -
And create panic on a dangerous scale ? I’m very political but don’t blame the government for either doing this or the test balls up. I’m just of the view that it’s never going to get used where it’s of any use.Covered End said:

What’s this “The Road” of which you speak. Sounds right up my street.Off_it said:It amazes me that people's natural survival instinct means they instantly think they WANT to survive a nuclear attack.

Is this the one that the main characters are a father & son (and a dog) ?
If so, I watched that a few years ago and found it haunting.2 -

My son wanted me to take him to a cup match at the time but I initially said no. Then I watched that film and thought that if the bloke did all that for his boy then the least I could do is take my son to the cup game he wanted to go to.
Colchester away. That taught me. And him.1 -
I’m proper chuckling at this, I mean every time I read it it makes me laugh again.guinnessaddick said:

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was in the Tankerton Arms demolishing a rather fine ale with my sister and bestie when it seemed everyone’s phones started making a ridiculous noise, including mine.
Considering I had no idea it was going to happen, it frightened the bejaysus out of me. Thank feck my pint wasn’t in my hand!
So if you’re on your holibobs and you have your alert switched on, you’ll still get it. That’s reassuring 🤷♀️🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣0 -
You don't need an alert - they can just come and knock on your door.Rothko said:

Opt out of the test
You can opt out of emergency alerts, including the national test, but you should keep them switched on for your own safety. Learn more about how to opt out of emergency alerts.

Yes, if your phone's switched off (not just on silent) you'll avoid it.sam3110 said:Can you opt out of this one?
Should provide some half-time entertainment at the women's first game of the season. Going to be fun for any non-league games with 3pm kickoffs.0 -
With a due respect, if the bombs are dropping, I'd rather be blissfully unaware than trying to desperately scramble to "safety" when in reality by the time the alarm sounds it'll be too latevalleynick66 said:

I don’t think they are dropping bombs as part of the test as Putin isn’t really helping out the UK so much currently ! 😉😆0 -
So if in ‘real life’ the alarm actually goes off what are we actually meant to do?Serious question3
-
Yeah, if you can opt out of this, then it indicates that you can opt out of all of them, including the real onesvalleynick66 said:

Say good bye to whoever you might be with.Arsenetatters said:So if in ‘real life’ the alarm actually goes off what are we actually meant to do?Serious questionThe serious point is it’s not for the doomsday scenario only but also other emergencies like floods etc.5 -
Look at your phone and see what the emergency message is. After that it's up to you whether you want to take action (probably a good idea if it's a warning of flooding or a wildfire) or not (there not being a lot you can do if the Russians have for some reason launched a bomb right at South-East London).Arsenetatters said:So if in ‘real life’ the alarm actually goes off what are we actually meant to do?Serious question2 -
It’s only used in a very distinct group of cases, and has been used lightly already. It’s no good for the 4 minute warning, mobile networks take to long to send out the messages0

What alarm ?0

Quite. Can’t really see why you would opt out.sam3110 said:
