Three years ago

Three years ago Bowyer came home to us, three weeks later we were told we could no longer attend school because of pending lockdowns.
With no socialisation available for such a young dog, selected from his siblings with the soul intention of becoming a Therapy dog it looked bleak at 10 weeks old he was in school with the intention of the children watching him grow now that was taken away.
Still able to exercise him in the schools fields Bow’s presence attracted the children to the perimeter fences and so the bonding started.
Training at home became a spectator sport after someone asked me for help on Twitter with their dog so I posted a video with Bow training, the much maligned Twitter users were nothing but encouraging as his following grew with people stuck at home watching his progress, now working in school only yesterday Bow’s presence brought a autistic child having a meltdown down to a level where the child sat and read his book to him while the teacher took five minutes respite.
Words don’t do justice to my dogs work with the children, confidentiality means I can’t use a lot of detail and you really have to be there to see the bond between child and dog and only Nathan Chapman has been allowed to see it first hand while on a visit to our home.
Again my reasons for writing this are to thank lifers as well as those on Twitter for the love and support given to our dogs and their work in the community.

  • As I said on Twitter.
Bowyer is an amazing animal & you and your lovely wife are just the best!
It’s us who should be thanking you for bringing so much joy to peoples lives (and I include myself in that) ♥️
  • @T_C_E  I think your dogs are marvellous, and it has not only those you directly engage with, but many of us in the CL community who benefit from following your work.
    Thank you.

That’s brilliant Ray. The use of dogs in schools has snowballed in the last 3-4 years, fantastic to see these new approaches (even as someone who is not a dog lover).

My wife's school now has one that the parents of one of her staff own and train. This pleases her immensely as like you, I'm not a massive fan of dogs and won't have one at home.

Agree on the dogs being marvellous but let's not go overboard on Ray, he's ok I suppose ;0

  • What a success story !

I feel a film coming on....

    Anyone know Spielberg's number ?
  • Ray - Lord and Lady Flash had the pleasure of meeting Mr & Mrs TCE and your utterly wonderful hounds - Bowyer you will recall took a particular ‘fancy’ to Lady Flash (!!) - the work you do is very very special

Whilst I understand that some people are not dog lovers, it cannot be underestimated the calming and loving effect good, well trained, and well behaved dogs can have on people’s lives

They are not called ‘man’s best friend’ for nothing (and sod off anyone who calls me out for saying ‘man’s’)

You can have the most shite day - everyone has pissed you off, argument with your wife, boss has been an utter twat - BUT there is someone (in my case 2) who are utterly delighted to welcome you home - love with no side to it, they just love you no matter what
  • Thank you so much for your kind words and @DaveMehmet 😉
Ive just been asked to do a Zoom meeting to members of a German Shepherd rescue in the very near future.
Get a dog they said, it’s very relaxing they said!
I love it, there’s no denying I work harder than I ever did when drawing a salary but the rewards far outweigh any wage drawn.
    Thank you again.
