A very young side went down 5-1 to Ebsfleet last night.
Not all doom and gloom as Kinsella and Gritt played five 16 year olds against a strong conference outfit and they held their own in an entertaining first half. Purcell gave Ebsfleet the lead but a lovely run and lob from the lively and talented Danny Uchechi squared the game. The 16 year old could have given us a half time lead moments later, but as it was Ebsfleet went in 2-1 at half time thanks to a powerful run and shot by the wonderfuly named Chucki Eribenne.
Ebsfleet came out in the second half with a more physical approach and that combined with the tiring young Addicks meant that it finished in dissapointing fashion, as Nade, DeBolla and Opinell added to Ebsfleets tally, but still the 5-1 scoreline was a little harsh I thought.
It is almost impossible to gauge if any of our young charges will make it or not, but there were certainly positives. The performances of Uchechi, (a lively quick and talented striker), Wagstaff, (as Gritty put it, will run all day long on the right wing and with no little talent), Coleman, (looks a prospect at centre half) and Arter (composed on the ball and had a decent range of passes), showed that there is talent in our youth ranks.
Other news, Luke Varney was at the match and he told me that damaged ankle ligaments will keep him out for another two weeks so he will almost certainly miss the opening match against Scunthorpe.
Managed to get interviews with Mark Kinsella and Liam Daish, both of which will be aired on Sunday between 6 and 8.00pm on 103.7fm (TGRSound) or www.tgrsound.co.uk

glad I didn't go now
my fish supper was grand :-D
I was going to try and pop down the road myself but couldnt get out for work early enough.
ir eally do hope we see the next batch of Parker's, Rufus' Bowyer's soon.
Maybe a season in the CCC will give them a chance rather than the cut throat business of the Prem where in most cases they can't be risked.
I feel optimistic about the academy all the time Gritty is there.
