Watching when "When Motown Came to Britain" on BBC2 and up pops CliveR of Bromley Addicks (and formerly RTM)

    He was a member of the Motown Appreciation Society which was formed by Dave Godin who lived in Bexleyheath. 

    Clive would be able to elaborate more on this but the rumour is that Dave was responsible for coining the phrase “Northern Soul” as he ran a record shop in South London and the away fans from up north would buy the rare soul records for sale when visiting away grounds nearby. 

    So, in a very roundabout way, Bexleyheath is pretty much the birthplace of Northern Soul.
