What age team would Man United have to field for it to be an even contest?
under 18s?
under 17s?1 -
Crap team selection by Holden... But I thought he spoke well after the game and we have seen shit performances for years under TS under what 4/5 managers?
Chin. Not readyNess. Not readyLavelle/Innis. Never will be readyClare. Dreadful RB and terrible passer.
Henry. Good set pieces but too small.
Campbell. Not readyThomas. Not fit (maybe not good enough)
When did Fraser become unable to play 3 games a week. He can't play more than 70mims but is that now 70mins only on Saturdays?
Start with Rak Saki, Blackett Taylor, Fraser, Leaburn and Innis and we beat Oxford I reckon. Rest them at the w/e against Pompey.
Need a takeover but the rumours of that sound likely to disappoint from today I fear. Don't get Leaburn as TS insurance plan as if he has done a load more cash and sold Leaburn to cover it he has weakened an already awful squad/team and likely ends up with a L2 team.2 -
This evening I felt unusually confident that we might grab a win here.............then I saw the line-up/formation and my optimism scarpered. I spent the entire match playing a game on my tablet and just the odd glance at the TV.
On the plus side, I beat my high score2 -

Pencil the next one in for early March. It doesn’t matter who they start, the current crop of players are only good to clean the toilets in the valley. I’m surprised they’ve gotten away with no serious backlash from the supporters. They’re well beyond the “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” territory.
Absolute horses***, the lot of them
You have to ask the question why. This is now the 4th (I dont think Jackson ever said it) manager in 2 and a half seasons saying "I don't know where that performance came from".
You can pick apart all their CVs, it's unlikely that all 4 were all to anyones taste and fancy, but none of them are idiots.
You can question the team selection, formation and tactics but no manager in the world says "all follow one striker, but no one actually get tight, and just let the other bloke be free on the far post". Or just kick it aimlessly in the general direction of the striker or don't bother tracking back or just allow crosses into the box or don't bother tackling.
Why? It's not even remotely the same group of players this has been happening since Gillingham away in 2020.

Dreadful.
That lineup looked very Papa Johns / Carabao Cup 1st round at first glance. To barely get out of our half for the first 45 mins is the sort of thing I’d expect (and forgive) against a side like Man United, but away to a very average Oxford in a lifeless atmosphere?Nothing against Dean Holden, but I fear this is just another Ben Garner episode where we’ll be looking again in 6 months’ time. Rinse and repeat.1 -
What sort of a moron is this new manager picking that starting eleven in that formation. Fucking unforgivable. The bloke is clueless.4

Text from my son before the game who wisely went out drinking with his mates: 'Weird Team' Says it all really and that is Holden's last chance in my book. No more Weird teams or I will be calling for your head. You are allowed to ask advice from people with a better knowledge of the players you know!0

Trust the process.

Saw that line up and added oxford to my accumulator. Now just need Derby to beat Cambridge tomorrow for a 25/1 return.
Pompey are 1.9 to beat us, it's surely free money.
I take no pleasure from this, it's a bloody shambles4 -
LoOkOuT said:Not gonna bother summarising beyond this: We are shite. Pathetic first half. Baffling changes to the starting eleven by the new manager, whatshisname, who praised the depth and quality of his squad in his pre-match interview. Hoof ball is in. Organised defending is not on the menu. Second half was a bit better, after a few changes, including Leaburn replacing Stockley. Wasn’t enough.

twiggyaddick said:Holden needs to explain that team selection, set up to fail dropping Sess, not starting Leaburn, no rak sak or CBT, just asking for it. Oxford are a poor side this season, and we are even worse, I don't think there are 4 sides worse than us at the moment. Think if we don't get anything at 3 point fratton, then we Know we are in serious trouble.
Thanks Sandgaards you f***

But he could have played CBT and JRS with Stockley up front to start. Not perfect but would have made some sense. And Thomas was a big risk as was Chin.3

Local Lad
Quality on the ball
Exceptional Youth team experienceHighlights how much of a farce this club is.
Just need a fresh start with an owner that's not totally inept.5 -

Spend the beginning part of the last two seasons underinvesting in building a team to play 4-3-3, to then switch it up and change to a manager who prefers to play wing backs and two up top when we have no strikers and no wing backs.
👏 👏 👏
We should have just kept with Garner, instead of this utter madness we have ourselves in now.

that's the first time I've walked away from watching us genuinely believing I've played in better teams1

Problem is mate a lot of the players know they will be here after you have gone. They know it.6 -
Watched the game with my Dad tonight on Charlton TV.
He’s been supporting the club since the mid 50s.
After the first half he said it’s the worst Charlton team he’s ever seen.Totally gutless performance and he said he won’t watch the team until there’s a new owner that knows what he’s doing and actually cares about the club.I think Dad might be in for a long wait and he’s not getting any younger.9 -
Absolutely dire. I really can’t bring myself to say anything positive. Before the game Steve Brown was commenting on our lack of communication in defence particularly at set pieces. Great example in the early stages of the first half when in a period of open play both Ness and Lavalle went for the same high ball. Ness ended up heading it to his left straight to an Oxford player instead of forward towards the centre circle. Then a few minutes later we have the laughable defending against Oxford’s first goal.I just looked back to our squad for the 1973/74 season, when we came 14th in the old Third Division, which I think is the lowest position I have seen Charlton end up in (i.e. one place lower than last season). In that squad we had players like Bob Curtis, Phil Warman, Peter Reeves, Derek Hales, Dave Shipperley, Keith Peacock, Peter Hunt, Mike Flanagan, Colin Powell. Sure they weren’t world beaters but there was some character, determination etc. I see no one in the current squad bar perhaps Dobson who measures up favourably to that squad. I appreciate that the passage of time makes you look at things through rose tinted glasses but boy this is depressing.6

PWRI think any Charlton fan could see that happening with the initial line up. Granted he is just through the door, but Holden gives me the fear, we are in big trouble0

Someone mentioned on the match thread about Inniss going all Steven Seagal at the end of the match - can anyone explain what all that was about?

The one positive about tonight is that on the way to Oxford I stopped off at the Rebellion Brewery in Marlow to pick up some bottled draught beer, so at least having just got home, I have something decent to drink as a reward for that having to watch that game.3
