is there a possibility that the League pick the better refs for those games that have a lot hanging on the result?
You'd hope so... but then there was the Championship referee for our game against Ipswich (the 4-4) a few years ago, where he thought he was too good to be officiating at our level - Then there was the referee last week who has taken charge of more Championship games this season than in League One, but still made that Aneke call.

All I know is that if Toner only gives some shitty decisions to Wrexham... He's clearly part of the EFL conspiracy theory to get Wrexham promoted

If he only gives shitty decisions against Wrexham then its just good to see he's being neutral ;)

I know that they do that in the PL, would assume something similar happens in the EFL too

You place too much credence on the fact that the League could give a stuff about the result, I mean every game is as important as the next to the two teams involved...

You’re overthinking things if you’re bothered about the ref for this game.
We’ll turn up or we won’t.
if you’re on the front foot then you get the decisions, and if you sit back you get very little.
Saturday is a game of passion. Who wants it most wins it.

Purkiss was the ref for Wrexham at the Valley, he got injured during the game and was subbed.

Whitestone is a select group 2 ref, so one of the better ones

Wasnt Hallam the excellent Referee we had earlier in the season, who is an ex-Footballer with Stevenage connections?

Edit: Yes he is... Was in charge of our 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers this season, and is probably the best official I've seen in charge of a Charlton game this season.

Whitestone is very much a Championship referee, hasnt taken charge of many games below that level in recent years, so hope this fixture isn't beneath him.

Be interesting to see the average referee marks for wins compared to losses & draws. Imagine they are significantly higher.

    Referee: Andrew Kitchen
Assistant Referees: Blake Antrobus & Shaun Hudson
    Fourth Official: David Webb
    Reserve Assistant Referee: James Wilson
    VAR: Michael Salisbury
    AVAR: Nick Hopton

Andrew Kitchen hasn't taken charge of any League One games this season, yet has taken charge of 26-games in the Championship, and two games in the Premier League. He's issued just two Red Cards all season, and four penalties.

Michael Salisbury on VAR duties has taken charge of 13-games in the Premier League and 6-games in the Championship this season... He's issued four Red Cards, and three penalties

Two names that worry me the most...
    Michael Salisbury
    Nick Hopton

Bloody VAR is a total farce of a system and needs eradicating from the game forever...imo

VAR needs a complete overhaul, especially offside. We all know with one reply if a player is offside....2 at most. When you have to start drawing lines then it's not clear & obvious. No one argues with goal line technology & that is proved within seconds. The same technology should be employed for tackles inside / outside the box for penalties.

Clear up those 2 issues & you have the majority of VAR sorted. Handball is another issue & that is more a rule change than VAR.

Referees Farai Hallam, Adam Herczeg, Tom Kirk, Ruebyn Ricardo, Lewis Smith and Ben Toner will join a newly-created supplementary list for the Select Group in the 2025/26 season, serving both the Premier League and EFL.

Yeah mixed reaction to that one, terrible in the Play-Off Semi-Final (VAR probably would have helped him out massively), but was outstanding when he took charge of our game against Bristol Rovers at the Valley earlier on in the season

I thought he was the best ref we had all season based on the Bristol Rovers fixture. I also didn’t think he was as bad as others clearly did in the Wycombe game albeit with one significant error of judgement regarding the foul on Ramsay
