New Premier League rules coming in have forced their hand.
Every club in the top tier must operate a Cat 1, 2 or 3 academy from 2024-25 onwards.
They will start with a Cat 4 academy this season after closing their Cat 2 academy in 2016.

They could solve the problem by getting relegated.10

It’ll be interesting to see what they do. In a way running with the bare minimum would be a bigger waste of time than investing in it and moving up a category or two.

Looking it up, Cat 4 is much like what they are doing anyway, as unlike Cat 1-3, it's for U17 upwards only. Cat 3 will be a massive leap, as they'll have to start from scratch with recruitment and coaches

There are 4 categories of Academy. Category 1 to 3 Academies register players from the U9 age group through to professionals whereas the Category 4 model is a late development model operating from the U17 age group upwards. Category 1 is the highest status of Academy.

I'm fairly sure they ditched their academy as an economy measure when they had to finance their excellent new stadium.

So you say will they be willing to leave a Premier Academy for a League 1 one? If they have any sense they will, because in Academy levels, we'll be the highest level and Brentford's will be the third level.0 -

I get your point about Cat 1 having better facilities and coaching, but the Premier League clubs will still have the spending power. Why would a promising 15/16 year old leave Brentford for Charlton when the professional contract on offer shortly after will be much less. It's just not going to happen.0
