I can’t find any information on when the playoffs were first introduced into English football. I know it was around the 1900’s. Also why did it stop? I think it was in place for 2/3 years. Can anyone remember this?

22nd April 1893 Darwin were promoted to the top division by defeating Notts County 3-2. So the Play Offs have been around a lot longer than we think. In the olden days they were called “Test Matches”1
