Sad way to finish for Pereira, but the drive at the last killed him. I'd like to see Zalatoris win it but I think JT is favourite.

Not sure how Pereira recovers from that. I feel awful for him!

Bollox!!!  After suffering through five hours of tedium I fell asleep with Pereira on the 17th. I wake up to the first hole of a play off.  I’m guessing Pereira made an absolute Horlicks of 18!!

Leading by one heading to 18th.

In the water off the tee. One shot penalty.

Third shot went wide and into the rough.

Over shot his approach with the 4th shot.

Had to putt from off the green with his 5th shot.

Finally in the hole with the 6th.

Congrats to Justin Thomas who wins the play-off with Zalatoris.

Massive missed opportunity for someone like McIlroy or Thomas if this ends with the winner on a -6 or -7 (unless it is Thomas, obviously!).
McIlroy was unlucky as he missed half a dozen birdie putts after going 4 under. Even after he dropped a couple he could easily had got to 5 or 6 under....the latter meaning he would have won. Just not his day

Pleased Thomas won. He’s too good to be a one major wonder. The drama arrived eventually. A pretty ordinarily tournament but a big ending.

Not the most inspiring last day major leader board I’m afraid. Pereira’s swing is not a thing of great beauty. Hope Fitzpatrick gets it over the line as a Brit although I find him quite hard to like for some reason. His association with the upcoming LIV event doesn’t help. Could be one of those where we get a freak one time major winner who does little else of note. This championship has a lot of previous in that regard - Micheel, Duffner, Bradley etc. All had good careers but never troubled the higher echelons of the leaderboard in majors before or since. That has happened with other majors too (Ben Curtis & Todd Hamilton take a bow) but the USPGA seems to specialise in them. The least iconic of the majors by a long way and almost surpassed by the Players Championship IMHO

Fitz is one of few Englishmen that have actually come out and said he's not interested in the LIV event. His brother Alex, a leading amateur, was linked but has also turned it down and Matt gave an interview saying he's pleased his brother had also rejected it.

    Indeed, still that missed opportunity.

Given he was -5 in the first round where he's normally struggled, he'll be gutted he couldn't end up -1 from the other 3 rounds.

It a shame but you can’t say there was any surprise that he didn’t do what was needed, he just doesn’t have the consistency he once did have. He says in interviews he thinks he is the best in the world when he is top of his game, but he isn’t top notch often enough anymore.

Most of the top 50 could say the same thing.

They don’t though, there is a few that are a level above the rest. And if they are all playing they’re  best I’d say he probably is top 3 at the very least.

In which case he has my apologies. I read an article last week which named him alongside Poulter, Westwood, Bland, Garcia etc as having sought a pass to play. I did think it peculiar given his age and Howard trajectory compared to the others.  Still think he needs to cheer up though!!

Imagine being in a 3-ball with him & Hatton. One looks like a bulldog chewing a wasp & the other could moan & whinge for Britain.
