I think the majority of people just forget these fellas are just young adults. Ok probably mid 20s but still young adults who are finding their way in life. So much more comes in to a move than just is what is seen on the surface. I wouldnt want to be living in a hotel week in week out with no friends and family around me at that age. They also need to go and fit in with a new group of players all with their own agenda/ego and im guessing this isnt always easy. Yes by all means im assuming most of us would love to be a footballer, but whats to say if we were we would love the game? To some its just a job they are lucky enough to be good at. Ive just turned 35 and in the football world at that age your too old and retiring . . Its a short career for them to set themselves up with . . .you cant blame them if a move doesnt suit what they want. Clubs have a duty to pay the player the sums they signed the contract for . . just as much as the player has a duty to perform to the best of their efforts if selected to play. I dont know anymore info but for the sakes of the Gilbey debate, why would he want to move house out of the London area to go to Lincoln? Makes sense to hold out for a move that suits his lifestyle. if the manager doesnt fancy him and he isn't selected all he can do is train each day and give 100%, the rest is out of his hands.
Its a tough game. I prefer the type of player who would want to play at the higher level.
I'm with you. It's totally up to people what they want to do with their lives and to make their own choices, and if you don't want to push yourself fair enough, but I want professional footballers who are driven and want to be the best they can be. With the Ben Watson revelation the other day and a number of players choosing if/when to turn up on the pitch for us, seems like we've had the wrong characters through the door in recent years.
What was the Ben Watson revelation?
He gave an interview to some paper that he couldn't be arsed anymore cos he was shit.
Not so much a revelation as it was a confirmation.

he had a clause in his contract stating he didn't have to run over 5 miles an hour
Frankly a bit non-plussed as to whether Bonne signs or not.
For balance on the MB comments, he clarified in a later interview with Richard Cawley:
“You’ve got to understand where I have come from. A year before I played [and scored] against Leeds I was playing in front of 1,000 fans at Maidenhead on a cold Saturday afternoon.
“At school I’d hear all about QPR because they were a Premier League team. I’ve even got friends who are QPR fans because of their Premier League days.
“I probably worded it slightly wrongly about my head being turned when I heard they wanted me – I apologise for that.
“But football is a ruthless game and things like this don’t happen to boys like me. I went from non-league to Charlton and then because of that I got an opportunity to go back to the Championship at a club like QPR. Things like that don’t come around often."
I am sure we have all made comments in the past that could have been worded better, not sure the value of reading too much into it, it's not like he downed tools and refused to see out his contract like a certain other striker.
yep, seems fair enough to me - its our fault that qpr is a step up not his and words mean f all in the end of the day - what taylor did relegated us and there's no way back from that

I don't want to sign him as I just don't think he's what we need at all - too slow, and too poor a finisher when he has more than 3 seconds to think about it.
But even without the above clarification, I genuinely don't think the comments were that bad. They were basically "when a club in the league above were interested and offered more money, I was very interested straight away". Of course he was.
Not like he added "and screw Charlton, tinpot tosspots" on the way out. Or refused to play after Covid etc.
Considered? FFS isn't it a bit late to be considering? Surely we should have had a list of targets lined up & should have been negotiating on the last day not considering. Why has it taken so long to decide to sign a striker? Oh yes prices come down apparently on the last day. bargains galore on the last day of the sales ! Great to see we learned the lessons from last year
Whilst not my first choice (or second, third…) I would take Bonne over nothing, especially if Garner thinks he’ll fit the system which Stockley plainly doesn’t.
Thats just it... By the sound of things we've got a couple of names we're looking at - Worst thing we can do is put all our efforts into signing one player, and ending up with no one if that falls through.
No. The worse thing we have done is leave it till today. We have had 3 months to sign a striker and should have done so earlier.
Wait are we the only side getting business done today?
If only our owners had the same sort of experience of working in Football as the majority of our fans... Oh wait
I would bet many of the people on this forum are and would be far more clued up about Charlton/running a football club than the ownership from what I've seen to date.
If only they had someone with football experience in the fold then it would save them a lot of headaches and that's largely the point.
Nonsensical to see Washington leave 3 months ago, rely on an injury ridden Aneke and gambling young Leaburn to potentially be sole goal scoring rival to Stockley who is seemingly not naturally compatible with the desired system.
He moved earlier in the year. Had been near me in Dormansland for a while and used to see him in pubs/restaurants our way, so asked where had he been hiding at the POTY dinner and he told me where he had moved to.

Another ex player to throw into the mix.

Mountain out of a molehill.
