Stockley will be a player who can provide memories. I can still see that Matthews run and cross and Jayden’s majestic header against Wimbledon in my mind’s eye. I don’t get the criticism, he is who he is.
Logs in. Sees lots of posts on rumours thread. Reads through loads of bollocks about Stockley being captain on a rumours thread. If only there were a thread about that.
Jayden isn't captain material, like Solly wasn't captain material. A captain needs to be the most vocal player, a leader of men and a disciplinarian. For all his footballing shortcomings and faults, Pearce epitomised this. I'd give it to Inniss, O'Connell, Dobson or McGrandles based on that alone
Genuinely astonished that people still believe this idea that every captain needs to behave like Roy Keane. I'm also amazed people think they can make judgments about whether a player is a suitable captain based on what they've seen in a few matches rather than the professional football managers who have spent decades in the game and have been working with the players every day. Stockley has worn the armband for Adkins, Jackson and now Garner, I'm beginning to suspect that according to the people that see the squad every day, Stockley might just be captain material.
Come on mate, Sam’s seen Stockley complain about the world class service he receives every game, how can he be a skipper.
That's very true. And to be fair, I haven't heard anything about Stockley dishing out spankings to people who misplace passes in training so I'm not convinced on his credentials as a disciplinarian. I did hear that McGrandles has brought his wooden spoon with him from Lincoln though, so I'm beginning to think that he might make a better skipper.
Stockley is a good striker if the team play to his strengths. From what we have seen in pre season the manager is not playing to his strengths, that does not make Stockley a bad striker just an ineffective one in attack.

But the manager has also put his full vote of confidence in Stockley, so he clearly believes he CAN play the required role

Or he’s so used to ball just being hoofed up to him in the last twelve months and asked to relentlessly flick it on (which he almost always did to no one and we lost the ball), that he just need a month or two to adapt to the new style.
He’s strong, good at holding it up and laying it off, he’s good and getting into good positions in the box and he is a real handful for defenders.
The main criticism for the style of play that I can see is he’s not the quickest. But with fast players around him that should be fine.
I mean, there are question marks over his ability to control and pass on the deck as well, but he'll definitely be working on that, and his sheer presence in the box is admittedly quite the feature

At last a rumour.....
Is the wooden spoon playing up front instead of Stockley ??
Who’s to say that it was Garner that chose Jayden to be captain ? Perhaps there was a dressing room vote. Seems like we have a few leaders and ex captains within the squad now. Perhaps it wasn’t a straightforward managers choice.

Can’t see it being a vote, takes away BG authority straight away. New manager isn’t having that if he’s got anything about him. It will BG that takes the stick if the players vote is a shit captain because of popularity.

He even adds his age to the account

I really hope its the managers choice, its not a democracy in the dressing room it should be a Dictatorship.
