Mrs HJ myself and a couple of pals are going to the Olavsfest this Summer . We are spending six days in the North of Norway  afterward and are looking for ideas. If this sounds a bit lazy and you're thinking why the hell would we book to go somewhere without knowing what we wished to do , its slightly different as I am being Pseudo paid to go to the festival / travel / hotel etc so its a bit of a bonus trip

Any inspired ideas ?

I've become a bit of an expert on this part of the World thanks to watching several Scandi crime series during lockdown.

You'll find that the place is full of demented killers, and that most of the police force have underlying personality problems.  Oh, and when you drive in your car, there will be a drone positioned exactly above you so that a continuous shot of your progress can be shown against a scenic backdrop.

For language tips, see the 'French Tutors' thread.  Incorporation of upspeak is essential in Norway ... and they have 15 additional vowels so almost any mangled attempt at words will sound OK.

In truth, it's a fabulous part of the World and you will enjoy the festival, I'm sure.  I would say, take in the scenery while you are there.  For me, that's what's special about Scandinavia in general.  And the people.  They are almost universally friendly (apart from the serial killers).

And, depending when you are there, RBK (Rosenborg) may be playing.  I know that they have home fixtures on 23 July and 6 August.
  • I went to Norway a couple of years ago. Packed up the car with some camping gear and drove. Norway has right to roam laws, which I'm pretty sure mean that as long as you are not within 100m of a building you can camp wherever you want although I did it in a hammock. Best nights sleep I ever had.
