    Could have worked out worse for him on his debut. 7-137 at the age of 18.

    It is totally inevitable that things will go badly wrong for him from time to time. But for now he looks like a real find and congratulations to the management for taking a chance with him. If you listened to Nasser after the last Test he wouldn't have played him here but this was exactly the right time to do so with nothing to lose.

     Remember, its Test cricket and there are still TWO full days left. No rain around and the boat's not leaving in 2 hours either.

    It's designed to put pressure on the opposition and make them change their field. They cannot attack while we are plundering boundaries and have had to change from close fielders and catchers to sweepers so there will be more gaps now for the ones and twos.

    Didn't rush him enough today!
    I think Stokes held him back because he knows Ahmed leaks runs & didnt want the top order taking advantage & getting a big lead. 

    Once we had control the lower order basically tried to hit him over the top & got caught with top edges & mis-timed shots.

    If we needed just 10 or 15 runs to win tonight & the meter readings are the same as previous days do you think the umpires will take them off ?

    What about the extra 30 mins to win a match/ finish an innings  ?

    Depends how much Pakistan want the game to finish today - if they carry on with the spinners the Umpires will be less reluctant to take them off for bad light

    All things being equal, which admittedly they never are, you would be foolish to leave out Anderson or Broad.  Which people have amlnd been made to look foolish.  Add in Wood and dare I say Archer.  If Stokes can bowl you might only need 3 of the above.

    Robinson is a very good bowler but certainly not generational.

    I can't help thinking that the one bloke who hasn't, perhaps, had the true recognition he deserves is Duckett. He now has in the series 304 runs at an average of 60.80 and that hasn't been as a result of one big innings. The Ashes will be the next Test but when was the last time that we had someone who looked as comfortable as he has opening?

    He's been great. Will definitely get the whole Ashes series unless Starc and chums expose a weakness against high pace

    He's been great. Will definitely get the whole Ashes series unless Starc and chums expose a weakness against high pace
    Good point Atherton has just made about seeing him against NZ in the interim

    The one thing that England are doing in playing the way they do now is adding to the argument that Test matches should be of four day duration although we might only need three here

    I think Jennings would only play in the sub continent.  Averages over 40, against less than 20 elsewhere.  Pope to open and YJB back is probably the next cab off the rank.
