I’ve never spoke to him either, but it’s quite clear he’s not only a proper lifetime fan who loves the club, but it seems like many who crossed his path has a good word to say about him. I’m sure he will be a big loss to the behind the scenes running of the club.

That’s the whole point isn’t it. Some people do a job for years without making friends, or earning respect for actions above and beyond. Mick wasn’t one of those.

I have never met him, but I tell you this - 2017, my Dad is diagnosed with terminal cancer - he had been a season ticket holder since the return to The Valley, and a regular since the 1940’s as and when his military service in the Army allowed - Dad got the train to The Valley, but come the start of the 2017/16 season, we knew that getting the train / walking to home games was impossible - I was put in contact with Mick via CL members - he didn’t know me or Dad - next morning a West Stand car park pass arrived in the post - free, no questions asked - I took my Dad to the first home game that season vs Bristol Rovers (we won 1-0) - that was his last Charlton game, he died a few days later - if it hadn’t been for Mick, Dad would not have got to the game, as even walking the short distance from the car park to the West Stand took an age - so massive thanks to Mick
Mick is a legend, i would go as far as saying that without his input into the supporters clubs when we returned to the Valley we would not of seen the gate receipts needed to sustain and build the squad in the late 90's. He was instrumental in getting us the supporters clubs behind and organised for target 10,000, without him and his drive and dedication (all voluntary at the time) i dont believe we would have seen the premier league years. Have a great retirement Mick, hope you have many years enjoyment watching the boys now without the stress of matchday.
As someone who had dealings with Mick from the other side of the fence, when I was a bit of an herbert, I can only say he was as straight as a die, always had mine and my cohorts respect, and on more than one occasion certain things didn’t happen out of deference to him. The night of the boardroom and range rovers should be one of many reasons why he should never have to buy a drink again in Charlton fans company.
If anyone thinks Mick - and for that matter numerous other fans who worked at the club - were just there to do a job and contributed nothing more than could be expected then you really know nothing about the last 30-plus years.
The club was run by fans during its most successful modern era and that wasn’t a coincidence. Mick was the great survivor and probably the best exemplar but to dismiss his contribution as “someone who did his job properly” is laughable. If that was a fair characterisation he’d have left many years ago.

I hope he has a very long, very happy retirement and I hope one day I can buy him a beer.
