Absolutely disgusting that this could happen. Also a sign of the times that nobody on the bus stepped in ( not casting blame as you never know what these pricks are going to pull out of their pockets ) the sad thing is that if they are traced all that will happen more than likely is they will get a warning. As a father of a child who has some serious health conditions along with autism and a mild learning disability, this hate crime strikes very close to home. One of my biggest fears for my daughter has, for a long time been whether she will be subjected to abuse by other people purely for being who she is. I had hoped that as a society we had made big strides in moving forward in this area but clearly not enough. I am not naive enough to think that all these primitive behaviours had disappeared, but for someone to be abused so blatantly in front of others in a public place, clearly shows we still have a great way to go.
I have for a long time been very proud of our approach to disability at Charlton and in particular been proud of the Upbeats and the community trust. But this sort of incident just cannot be allowed to happen. I sincerely hope that anyone on that bus or elsewhere who witnessed this will contact the Police and I hope both our club and Ipswich will publicise the incident and urge people to come forward, to ensure that the perpetrators are caught and receive the full penalty of the law as well as suffering the condemnation of all decent people in the football world.
Tom is exactly the type of person that can inspire other people with disabilities, demonstrating that exciting jobs are within reach and can be done despite what others may think. There is no doubt that one of the biggest challenges many disabled people face is in being vulnerable to others and I would urge anyone who ever witnesses these vulnerabilities being exploited to step in and give assistance and if you can do nothing else call 999 and get Police assistance. If we let incidents like this to carry on unopposed then we are allowing the degradation of civilised society and are heading towards a world where increasing numbers of people will be afraid to leave their homes.

Both my daughters are disabled and are wheelchair users - I would be horrified and go ballistic if they were abused in the manner Tom has been.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I know it's easy to say whilst sat behind a screen but what a shame that not a single person on that bus thought to stand up to these bullies and send them packing.
Of course there is always the risk nowadays that these idiots carry weapons etc but I'm not sure I could sit there whilst someone was subjected to sustained abuse like this gentleman was. Perhaps those on the bus can reflect on how they would have felt if it was their child on that bus and what they would have wanted passengers to do in the same situation.
A horrible experience for the guy but I have no doubt he will see in the next few hours and days that there are far more good people than bad on this planet and there will be so many people wanting to rally round a fellow fan and human being to ensure he gets the support he needs.
