I love him as we all do, but Brownie...dial it down a bit...

It may be just me, but Brownie is driving me nuts as an in-game summariser on Valley Pass. He often has interesting insights, but he is talking way too much. It's not how a summariser should contribute. He's much better in the studio with Curbs, who often ribs him for his verbosity. In game he is discussing every small incident, and far too often pointing out what a player could have done instead. And never quickly. He is still talking long after the event, which must be a problem in the audio commentary when people need to know how play has moved on. Trouble is, it's how he is, Curbs keeps joshing about it. I wouldn't want to lose him, but I'd say to him, don't feel the need to comment on every little incident. Concentrate on the key things that are starting to affect the flow of the game. And never, ever keep banging on as the play moves on, because Terry/Greg have a job to do for the audio-only listeners.

Yeh agreed. I love brownie but preferred the commentaries when it was just the other two.

It works fine when you have the video. I enjoy his comments. Can totally see how it would be a problem if you had audio only, though.

Send him some fudge to get his teeth stuck into.

I feel the best of Brownie came in the post match podcast with Benjy last season.

He's a great lad but it's a bit too much during the game at the moment. It reminds me of bumping into an old mate who you like but try to dodge as they're going to chew your ear for hours, not minutes.

I think he was more so today as he was often being contrary to Terry and his anti ref stance. Was often putting over the opposing view. To be honest Terry gets on my wick with that as well.
Brownie does go on a bit but he's one of ours and wouldn't want it to change.

I personally like everything Steve Brown brings but I can see how someone might want him to tone it down a bit.

It would be a much more boring game to watch on TV if it was just Greg and Terry.
I am actually fine with Greg and Terry as the commentary team because each of them in the summariser role only takes up a reasonable amount of bandwidth. I dont want an "analysis" of every minute. Half time and full time, fine. In game, I just want to enjoy the action plus replays to work out what happened at key points.

    Let Brownie be Brownie.
Yup, I think he’s great and enjoy listening to him

I enjoy his comments, calls it like it is e.g. ‘let’s be honest we’ve seen a lot of dross here this season’.

The commentary is a difficult one as the needs of someone listening as apposed to watching are different. I really like Brownies insights of the game, but can understand that a listener would be anxious to know what is actually happening.
I suspect that Prague is watching, and maybe there should be an option to turn off the commentary but still hear the sound of the game as we could in lockdown? Maybe not the perfect solution for everyone, but at least gives the closest experience to actually being at a match.
If it was not for Brownie it is the option I would choose as I really don’t need a commentator to tell me a ball has been pumped into the box when I can see that for myself, but I don’t want to sit in silence. I want to hear the crowd, whistle etc.

Its a £10 bespoke broadcast - it is not Sky or BBC.

Its fantastic value with great Charlton focussed people.

Feedback is fine of course but this comes across as a criticism and isn't necessary. You are getting a biased Charlton 'fan' and that is the product. Enjoy it for what it is.

    Brownie?

    Yes, boss?

Cease your garrulous loquaciousness forthwith, or I shall rib you for a second time about your verbosity.

    Yes, boss.

I've not listened this season but last season I did enjoy his insights however, I think there's a time and place for it.

I think he would be more suited to a "Monday night football" type role where he could dissect certain incidents at half/full time in the studio.

As an audio only listener I do sometimes find I’m shouting ‘get on with it Brownie’ but not that often & certainly not last night.
I loved every minute as I could feel how much we battled just by listening to them both.
Think my Bruv is getting better at pulling him in a bit. It was always going to take time, they’re fans, he’s Stevie Brown 😳

I appreciate what he’s brought to the comms personally.
I forgot who your bruv is...I certainly thought that for a while something like that happened, but last few games he's been back on full throttle again.

Again, I agree he does add insights, they are worth having, but, quantity rather than quality, less is more, etc...

@Redrobo Yep, I'm an annual subscriber. I was wondering if that semi-mute button exists, but the thing is, I think Terry and Greg are very good, they hit the right tone and quantity for me, even if Terry is palpably biased. Why not, we are paying for it, and Greg or Brownie soon correct him. But I wouldn't wish to mute them all.

Looks like I'm in a clear minority though, so fair enough, that's why I started the thread, to gauge the general opinion.  I'll just have to live with it.

I liked him at first, and still enjoy his insights, but feel he takes too long to get them across. It’s all about timing. The Beeb or ITV would give him proper training.

I was flicking over to your game in between dips in ours. If it's who I think it is then he'd send a glass eye to sleep.

    Just my unbiased opinion.
