Well there will be a mourning period, would they postpone all football/sport/events this weekend?jacob_CAFC said:
would it really be though? it might seem like that in the UK, but it's not going to have any real impact anywhere else. Not really going to have any impact here eitherRossman92 said:
Always been intrigued by the pageantry and protocol of it all because it truly would be one of the most important events in world historyForeverAddickted said:

Would imagine that’s spot on. As idiotic as journalists can be, for something that’s been being rehearsed for decades, don’t imagine they’d do any of this unless they were told something definitive. Would have expected an announcement first but Lord knows what goes on behind the scenes of all thisElthamaddick said:
Sadly I think you are right and they will wait until all the key royals are there before announcing formally - otherwise why the blanket BBC coverage and all in blackRob said:I think she has already passed
Operation London Bridge above is the standard procedure - You'll notice that one of the actions is for the BBC to dress in black, once its happened - Of course because she's in Scotland; Operation Unicorn comes into effect.

It’s the emotional side of it as well remember. For most people the Queen has always been there. This is a very sad day.33

The longest reigning monarch in the one of the most historically powerful empires in history passes away? Even though her role has become ceremonial presently, the whole world knows her and most of us have only known her in our lives. Politically this won’t be make a huge impact, but culturally I think it does, even for an American like me.jacob_CAFC said:

It's probably the biggest news story in our lifetime if it does happen. Doesn't matter how old you are.jacob_CAFC said:

Think of how many world events she's been front and center of representing the country.9 -
There are 2.4 billion people in the Commonwealth it will have a huge affect, not least the question of Monarchy its self.

When numbers 2 to 10 in the pecking order travel to Balmoral when it's not the Queen's Birthday or Xmas it doesn't take a Royal reporter to work out what occuring.3
-
Watching the news now and if she has sadly departed then i hope they manage to release another 'final' photo of her. Seems a bit of a piss take that if after everything she did in her life, the final photo of her in existence is with Liz Truss!4
-
If she has already died, why would there be a delay in the announcement? What would be the benefit in not releasing the statement straight away?0
-
To provide containment for the likely public response? I don't mean in a bad way but whatever some on here may think this is going to have a massive impact on many in this country and therefore, whatever your position on royalty is going to impact all of us.Todds_right_hook said:If she has already died, why would there be a delay in the announcement? For me, despite my political leanings, I understand that she has been a source of continuity, comfort and stability to the people of this country and I believe she has provided a psychological check on some of the worst inclinations of some of our leaders, and for that I am grateful.7 -
I believe there's a set process on who gets told and in what order.Todds_right_hook said:If she has already died, why would there be a delay in the announcement? What would be the benefit in not releasing the statement straight away?
The population is told last of course.2 -

Eh?2 -
There must be a process and set protocol's for this i guess.Todds_right_hook said:If she has already died, why would there be a delay in the announcement? What would be the benefit in not releasing the statement straight away?0 -
Her first Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill - her last Liz Truss. Doesn't square any circle, does it?Chris_from_Sidcup said:Watching the news now and if she has sadly departed then i hope they manage to release another 'final' photo of her. Absolutely. They would also want to wait for the whole family to be there before it is announced.Wheresmeticket? said:

Nicholas Witchell was speaking and stuttered halfway through just now - and frankly sounded like he was about to start crying. His whole voice changed halfway through a question..... Its like something had just come through to him.

liz truss 28 years ago as a student was slamming the monarchy, it doesn't sit right that the last possible photo of her is of them together2
-
I suspect that the delay in any announcement is also to allow those members of the Royal family travelling to Balmoral to actually get there before they do so.3
-
Makes sense, thanks.SELR_addicks said:

Personally think it’s bad taste, tell us when it’s happened. Do we really need a kind of pre event warm up. I really don’t think so……..0

I presume the Queen herself has approved the plans, so I would prefer that her wishes were followed when she does pass away.RaplhMilne said:Personally think it’s bad taste, tell us when it’s happened. Imagine one of her children on the way to Balmoral seeing it on a Twitter feed. That would be bad taste in the extreme.RaplhMilne said:Personally think it’s bad taste, tell us when it’s happened. Do we really need a kind of pre event warm up. I really don’t think so……..14 -
The decision to bring Huw Edwards in to present during the middle of the day should surely say a lot.10
-
Come on. She may be our queen but she also has a family who should be the first to know. We don't need to know when it's happened.RaplhMilne said:Personally think it’s bad taste, tell us when it’s happened. Do we really need a kind of pre event warm up. I really don’t think so……..6 -
Perhaps the opposite? The head of a parliamentary democracy is the head of state of all. It demonstrates the strength of a democracy that someone who is opposed to the principle is nevertheless bound by the democratic principle.palarsehater said:liz truss 28 years ago as a student was slamming the monarchy, it doesn't sit right that the last possible photo of her is of them together1 -
And it's kind of fitting that the last photo could be her performing one of her most important duties.SporadicAddick said:

Fortunately the Monarchy is not bound by "taste", but by duty, principle and protocol.RaplhMilne said:Personally think it’s bad taste, tell us when it’s happened. Do we really need a kind of pre event warm up. I really don’t think so……..1 -
I’m sure they have phones and other means of communication. I’m sure if a family member is on a plane an hour away, they would not wait until they arrived to tell them.O-Randy-Hunt said:

I would guess they'd tell them but they'd be waiting for their arrival before any official statement was madeRaplhMilne said:
