    Play well get subbed
    Ridiculous!
You know the excuses will be rolling off Nige's tongue like confetti... "we have had to manage the minutes they can play" etc etc etc...ffs, the season will be over before they can play two games in a week..
  • Not far off last season's successful central midfield. On balance this should be ok. We would have had Watson/Pratley, Gilbey and JFC/Morgan midfield last season and that team was hard to beat and did well. Just remains to be seen if Arter can play at the level he's been capable of in his career. The wings look strong so we're dependent on the central midfielders being up to speed and performing.
  • I'm actually okay with that line-up, he's gone for experience.
Need Leko, Lee and Gilbey in particular to get forward and support/provide for Stockley so he's not left competing for balls from orbit all game, 40 yards from goal.
Also, Morgan out - tick, Gunter out - double tick and star

    So he dropped him.

Same goes for Blackett-Taylor. And dont tell me HE cant do back to back games, otherwise what have I been watching for the past 40 years when teams only had 1 sub and regularly played midweek & cup replays etc.
I don’t think the missing players are being dropped - it’s rotation. That’s why we have 2 players per position. Suspect Morgan and Purrington will be back for Tuesday.
    Don't be sensible.
Is this sensible rotation policy working at the moment?
  • It seems NA fancies Gilbey as an attacking mid.  I would have preferred Gilbey back next to Arter, remove Watson and have either CBT or Kirk in but let’s see
  • Anyone know why there is such a large police presence outside the ground today?

Where did Gilbey play well last season?

Not back anywhere as I recall.

Odd that CBT is benched. He was outstanding midweek.
    Rotation….and a good impact sub.
Why would we rotate when we're struggling for form? Bring in players that haven't done so well for ones that have, don't get it. Play the form players it's not like we have many.

  • On the train down and suddenly found myself in the middle of loads of Pompey. You going to the match asks the rocket scientist that sits next to me. Yes I answer. You Pompey he asks. No I say. Who do you support then he asks. Charlton, it’s not hard to work that one out I helpfully suggest. No he agrees. Sorry says his mates. No problem I says, we do the same when we go to Pompey. Noisy bunch though the song repertoire seems a bit limited. Heard ‘you’ve never won fuck all’ 4 or 5 times between London Bridge and Charlton. Clearly no grammar police in Portsmouth to point out the bleeding obvious. Must admit, I do like the games with Pompey.

Today is the day that Gilbey shows us he’s been the missing piece all along. Go on Gilbs.

Really strange one. He made brave calls last week and we had a much improved performance. Now he's reverted back?

Also feels weird that we're still managing players' minutes 2 months into the season. Feels like we're still in pre-season.

Think everyone agrees CBT played well when starting. Davison also did well on his own.

I dont remember Forest rotating their players when they won the European Cup in 1980. They played 70 matches that season. And on heavy pitches too.....not these carpets you see nowdays

Don’t think anyone did rotation in those days. And only one sub back then too.
  • Team just strikes of someone who has no clue of his best starting XI….players must now be able to play 2 games a week.

cannot keep changing so much every game.

not confident with that starting XI

must win….draw and he’s got a stay of execution till Tuesday. Lose and he has to go, I’m fed up watching this shit

Spoke to a player last week who is playing today. Told me Famewo has to always play if fit as that is what the deal with Norwich states. It’s great to be ITK
But he’s on the bench ?

Seriously @Dazzler21 We DREW with Gillingham.  We are in the relegation zone.  Don't you think some stability and selecting players who play well is a good idea!  Cause rotation isn't bloody working!

Did get bench of 5 and you could use 2 for their 2 seasons in the European Cup

Just watching the warm up and they are scoring with every shot. Can't see that continuing somehow 🤔

Pompey at home. Need to win.

Charlton: MacGillivray; Matthews, Lavelle, Pearce (c), Souaré; Gilbey, Watson, Arter; Leko, Stockley, Lee

Subs: Henderson, Famewo, Dobson, Clare, Blackett-Taylor, Kirk, Davison

    But won't.
    That's the spirit
    Well. I'm here anyway.

  • 4 ex Millwall players in the Pompey line up. This is the best chance you have of beating us in years 😉

Yet Watson at 36 is able to play 2 a week beggars belief - half decent first half when he had all the space in the world but he is too slow and offers zero protection defensively as the oppo just out pace and drift past his 2 day late lunges - Pearce also deemed fit enough to play 2 a week despite Adkins saying preseason that these 2 would be no more than squad fodder.

This inability to keep a settled side or even a settled formation looks increasingly like Bowyer's team of last year but without the supersub to get us a possible equaliser.

It’s clear that Gilbey is a major part of Adkins’ plans. He’s been waiting for his return to set up the way he wants to play (which is based on the end of last season’s success). I have no problem with that and suspect Gilbey will make the difference, turning defending into attacking. Leko and Lee to support Stockley.

CBT is a major weapon off the bench, so no problem with that.

I think the major question mark is whether Adkins can make the right counter adjustments as Portsmouth adapts to our play down the wings. Gillingham turned to man marking Lee in the second half and we couldn’t adapt.
