Tbf London Airbnb prices tend to be weirdly inflated, which feels weird when it's the one place you're not looking to stay...
Used to be able to find nice little one bed flats in terraces in Ladywell, East Dulwich, Lewisham Greenwich borders for £80-£100 per night but they've pretty much disappeared. It's all boutique studios in funky Bellingham where you are paying for loud wallpaper and garden chairs in the corner of a bedroom that apparently constitutes a dining area. "Handy" for Catford with its wide range of international cuisine.
Funky Bellingham you say. The place that time forgot.

Avoid Thamesmead for a weekend break …. this is from someone born in Woolwich, went to school in Charlton and had a good friend who lived on the Thamesmead estate. Watch the video of Apex Twins “Come to Daddy” which was filmed in Thamesmead …“The estate’s foreboding brutalist architecture has made it a destination of choice for filmmakers looking for “urban decay” vibes, and Stanley Kubrick shot many scenes of his controversial A Clockwork Orange in Thamesmead as a dystopian vision of future.”

If you want to show your family a good time in London then why not stay in central London or south of river in the Waterloo / South Bank / Borough area? Hotels are cheaper than in 'normal" times as there are no international tourists in numbers because of the pandemic.

A great way to get to Valley start morning on London Eye, take Thames clipper to Greenwich, walk up to Observatory for view & Meridian line then Lunch in Trafalgar Traven or Cutty Sark pub then bus or uber to Valley
After the match bus to O2 - take Emirate cable car across Thames and back - then Thames Clipper back into C London they have a licensed bar so you can celebrate or drown your sorrows if Addicks poor form continues ! (Thames Clipper & Emirate take Oyster card) Your 18 & 21yr olds send them off for a night in Soho or Shoreditch !

I'd stick the family in the Thamesmead gaff and find a little boutique hotel for myself if it were me mate. Like above, avoid the place at all cost.

Although I do have mates that are proud to be Thamesmead born and bred

There's always the campsite in Abbey Wood - https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites/england/south-east-england/london/abbey-wood-caravan-club-site/?utm_source=localsearch&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gmb

Surprising, it gets very good reviews!

(and it's not the travellers site!)

Can't believe that's still going. We used to joke about going on holiday there when we were kids

£1500? maybe if your on mega bender after seeing Addicks lose to Pompey
Booking.com has loads of hotels, self catering etc for £200-400 for 2 nights for 4 adults Central London is awash with empty accomodation.
    Cable car £4 / Clipper £4.60 singles?
It never fails arrives in Greenwich from the river and walk up for the view in the park.

The Premier Inn at Sidcup is 30 seconds walk from the station and the loop train makes it pretty much door to door. Loads of restaurants and bars within a couple of mins walk

Is there not a nice flat in the London Bridge area thats available?

Heard it has ample parking too so if you have a biggish vehicle you should be able to park up okay

Surely there'll be a decent Airbnb in the area
Bradford Barnet can advise on that.
Too be fair mate , he uses Travelodge most of the time.
His recommended travelodge Morecambe for Morecambe away.

£1500 an exaggeration, but your itinerary will be several hundred quid for 4 adults.

Cable car return £8 each. Clipper central London to Greenwich return £15 each. London Eye £25 each. You’ve spent £200 there before hotel, food and the game.

All depends on how one spends one's money?
A trip for 4 to London isn't cheap whether that's staying in Greenwich, Thamesmead or Central London but with careful planning  there are plenty of free attractions to enjoy museums, galleries and places of interest. I'd say Thames Clipper and Emirates are well worth the money and to reduce costs take single journeys with the tube / DLR back?  Enjoy free views from Royal Observatory, Parliament Hill or Telegraph Hill.
Plenty of places in C London where food is good value just avoid too many pints out in central London. If Pompey turn us over then costs of tickets, food and drink at Valley will seem expensive but then again if Addicks win then the London streets which are painted in Gold, won't hurt the wallet as much!?

Tuck the wife and kids up and then head down the Millers in Bexley  ;)

If you write a nice email to Thomas (don't forget to mention how inspired you are by Addicks to Victory) he might let you camp on the pitch...
