George Dobson - Gone to Wrexham p136, farewell message p142

  • It's not a pre-contract. It is a contract, which is enforceable from the 1st July. As it has been signed in advance some people are incorrectly calling it a pre-contract.

FWIW The difference between a pre-contract and a contract is that the former is to validate that all parties have a shared understanding, before the actual contract becomes valid.

The Contract has already been completed and signed therefore the contract includes the validation that GD is a Fehervar player from the 1st July as agreed by George, Charlton and Fehervar.

  • He’s definitely an NJ type player.
Lets hope that having known that we’d be in Lg 1 again for a few weeks now, NJ and co have been lining up suitable or dare I say it, a better replacement

That Hungarian news is a summary of the English news of the past few days, including Jones's statement.

There is a new part in it that he can only stay if he is bought out by Charlton, but Videoton does not want to sell him.
I bet I’m the only person on CL who speaks fluent Hungarian.
Having thoroughly read that article, may I say it’s all Greek to me.
    Nem, nem a parod
    Is that all ya got?🤭
    Yup lol
  • I just find it remarkable that Dobbo is still managing to turn in such great performances, knowing that either:
    A) He won't be playing for us much longer, we are safe from relegation, and he wouldn't want to pick up a bad injury before his big move.

    Or

B ) He doesn't want to leave us, but now has all the worry of either buying himself out of the contract or being forced to have to go somewhere where he doesn't want to now go.

It has to be one of the above scenarios. But here he is playing his best football ever for us.
It could be that his character means he gives 100% when on the pitch irrespective of the circumstances.
    The polar opposite of Taylor.

Hope he stays. Very difficult to replace him. Still believe whoever sanctioned his move isn't even fit to lace George's boots.

We've heard all sorts of theories and "facts" about this sorry saga from all sorts of sides, apart from one...George...
Maybe he just didn't want to stay, and fancied a new challenge and the club couldn't persuade him otherwise, would be interesting hearing from the man himself, but we all know that won't be forthcoming any time soon if at all...could all be bunkum..🤷‍♂️
  • In recent months he has made big progress in filling in the missing gaps towards becoming the complete midfielder.
The assists and goal threats are now becoming a regular feature of his game.
To find a like for like replacement would cost us a small fortune, even if such a player could be persuaded to ply their trade at such a low level.
If he's definitely off, then Jones needs to use Saturday's game to start experimenting and planning for next season without him.
Saturday's line up could be very telling!

Can you find any examples of a professional club failing to draw up a legitimate contract and a transfer falling through as a result?

This whole thread is hypothetical and therefore subject to discussion and differing opinions, you will probably be proved correct unfortunately, but until and WIOTOS then who knows, not even you I might hazard a guess at...🙄

He could have left Dobbo out last Saturday if he wanted, as it was a dead rubber for us.

I'm sure he'll pick his strongest side against Wycombe, whether they're out of contract or not.

No again it's not "until and WIOTOS then who knows". He's off in the summer to play for a club in Hungary. End of. If he decides to then move back to England in January because he hasn't settled, THEN and ONLY THEN will it be up for discussion about the possibility of bringing him back.

If your opinion deviates from this, then it deviates from the facts, and is therefore wrong

Agreed. The whole squad will hopefully change so it’s no more than try and win every game as the competition expects.

    I was lucky enough to bump into George this morning and I explained about the circular conversation on the internet discussion board and politely enquired that, although it was none of my business and I didn’t expect a full answer, bearing in mind the complexities of the situation but could he maybe just give me a brief summary that I could post here for some of the hard of thinking on the board to move our discussions along and he agreed and I therefore reproduce his answer in full below;
”The thing is, I’ve never really understood if the word refers to a restaurant specialising in roast meat, particularly roast beef and Sunday roasts or if it just means the station within a buffet where such food is served, but in any case I prefer Ghoulash, so I’m not sure I can really help ya. See ya”
    So there you have it…

  • If there is any prospect of George staying at Charlton then by this point I’d expect either the club or him or both being in conversation with Fehervar. Jones wants the bulk of his squad signed up by pre season so the club will need to know what’s what very soon. He’ll need replacing if he’s going so the situation needs resolving pdq. Will he, won’t he can’t be allowed to drag on all summer.

It’s only dragging on in the eyes of the deluded, I’m afraid.

It is been announced on the OS, just not ours, probably because everyone involved in thoroughly embarrassed.

You're hounded if you have an opnion that isn't popular.

I'm sure he'll pick his strongest side against Wycombe, whether they're out of contract or not.
By his own admission, he did experiment, with a back 3 in the first half, and it didn't work out.
So I'm not so sure that his prime objective now is to play his best 11, or his most effective formation.
Even Alfie hasn't been assured a place recently.

Yet until now, Dobbo continues to be a fixture, even though he won't be here next season.
I find that a little strange.
  • Who came up with singing that crap more year song for Dobbo ? Hardly a fucking encouragement to not go by promising him one more year ‘playing the Charlton way’ if he stays

Jones was/is in a power struggle with Scott.
Scott was overruled to keep Dobson until the end of the season.
Jones would look very foolish and be undermining himself, if he then didn't play Dobson.
Not sure about that tbh, he wanted Dobbo because he was a player who he felt would help us stave off relegation, which he did. I dont think he would look foolish at this point not playing Dobbo.
  • So we have finally reached the end of this season, now can we PLEASE see an end to this on/off Dobson saga...one way or the other, so we can move onto the serious stuff of building a squad who wants to play for us ready for August...

We'll only truly see an end to the Dobson saga, once the August Transfer Window closes, maybe even later, given how long the Aneke saga dragged out and he was a free transfer

Far too late to be potentially losing your skipper and most influential player, I suspect it is already sorted, just us plebs are treated like mushrooms...kept in the dark and fed bullshit
