We can do better than Purrington. I don't think that's a big criticism of the bloke, he is just very basic.
We've also heard from Crewe fans that Kirk struggled with a defensive LB behind him, and Ben is absolutely that.
One game I watched on valley pass last season Ben Purrs, spent more time in the oppositions box in the 2nd half than Washington ! The game he had 3 half chances. A total myth that he doesn't get forward. Obviously every sides full backs will pass side ways and back until the angle opens up. Not having pace will show him up on occasions but all League 1 Full backs have weaknesses.
Now less than 12 hours to go for these tasty loan signings.
Must have confused him with somebody else for all the games I watched then...
Washington, Lee, Schwartz (so so) and Kelman as backup forwards. Take Innis and Stockley out for injury/suspension and suddenly we are quite a small team defending and attacking set plays.
Expect some loan arrivals from QPR and west Ham today - Charlie Kelman ( previously mentioned ) and Emanuel Longelo.
Summer update from West Ham on Longelo.
The 20-year-old left-back enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Claret and Blue last season, making his first-team debut against Hull City in the Carabao Cup third round last September.
After playing more minutes for the U23s than any other member of the development squad – on numerous occasions wearing the captain’s armband – the former winger continued to develop as an exciting, attack-minded full-back at Premier League 2 level.
Arter was training with Ireland yesterday. I'd be very surprised if he failed a medical then hopped onto a plane for international duty. I reckon it's all been done on our end. Forrest more than likely have moved the goal posts but I still think it'll get done.
I’m still not convinced with D J to do the tracking back in 442 formation and not sure if we’ll see Ronnie again so only really got Washington and Davidson to partner stockley
Starting to think this Stockley bid is a non starter as the vague information I initially received has turned into a flow within two hours of requesting some more digging.
Anyway, current dubious update is an seven figure bid plus from a Northern Championship side - perhaps Preston want him back?

Christ imagine the meltdown if it happened there was a buy back clause

Is this the same Ben Purrington who only missed one match and played 90 minutes pretty much all the other games last time we got promoted from league one?
Only missed one match?? He played 18 games for us that season.

Even if the bid is 7 figures I sincerely hope we turn it down. Even if it was all reinvested and you managed to bring in Jephcott and Dempsey with the proceeds I think we'd be a poorer team with those two in if it meant Stockley was out.

I can’t understand how the situation of Arters wages can be resolved. If I were in charge I would feel signing him would unbalance things.
For someone who hasn't played since Feb, has had personal issues, spats with the manager and potentially fitness concerns, we shouldn't be contributing anything more than 'squad player' wages.

Forest probably hoping to offload more of his wage than we're prepared to offer.
Wouldn't be surprised if this happens late in the day if Forest haven't moved him on and it's too late for them to bring anyone else in with extra funds they might have been hoping to free up.

Only got signed January 2019 though... But that was when we went on the stonking run
Purrington was a game changer. After losing Grant we had to become better defensively to go up, Purrington ensured we were able to do that.
You can't honestly call Purrington a game changer
He added the balance that was missing in Defence after Lewis Page got injured in September.
Same thing that Im sure he'll do again when he returns or when a new Left-Back starts for this current squad.
At the very least he or any new bloke will mean they wont have to cut back onto their correct foot before putting any crosses into the box - Meaning that any attacking impetus isnt potentially lost, which is unfortunately happening with Gunter at present.

I’ve heard it’s £9,000,000.
Surely only Ipswich and Wrexham are the UK sides able to make a bid that size.

Any natural left footed left back would add balance in that team, we don't have anyone else.

But thats a game changer isnt it? - He changed games for us because he came in and did the job that had been missing
I agree any number of Left-Backs could have been signed to do the same thing, but they could have also failed badly
Purrington isn't the worst but he's also nowhere near as solid as is claimed. Evidence for the prosecution: Blackpool away when he got sent off and Maatsen dealt with Hamilton effortlessly, and worse still the Gillingham defeat when he basically let them shoot for their winner and Bowyer said a certain player would never play for him again (a typically embattled dick move on his part admittedly)

I think it's safe to say this is a nonstarter for us.
