Meeting a relative of a former Charlton legend

edited July 2007 in General Charlton
I was doing some work in a branch of office angels yesterday and got chatting to the receptionist who lived in beckenham , not all her life as she told me because she lived all over the world till she was seven.

Anyway I mentioned football and the fact I supported Charlton and she says "my grandad used to play for Charlton" , I was expecting the name of some guy who played 4 reserve games in 1956 and wouldn't even be in the valliant 500 but then she says "his name's Eddie Firmani!"

Nearly fell off me step ladder I tell yer. She says he's 82 now and still coaching. Told her he was an absolute legend and that my dad and uncled would be rather impressed when I told them. Funny thing is when I rang to tell my dad I was driving through old street and looked out of my van window to see Gem and Andy Bell from oasis walking along the road. Strange old morning all round.

Eddie Firmani is a legend, alright - but he's never 82. Doubt if he's more than a year or so older than 72. He was still
playing striker for Charlton in 'real' Division 2 in 1967, before he became manager.

He does have an older brother, Peter Firmani who played full back for Charlton probably late 40's and early 50's.
    Now, he could be 82.
  • Wikipedia says he was born in 1933:

So he is 73, about to turn 74.
  • maybe I got it wrong on the age but till still be coaching at his age is pretty impressive
  • My mum went to school with his ex-wife, she still sees her. She has kept his name too.
