Chatting about rock music with Thomas he remarked what a strange link up it was when Metallica made an album with Lou Reed (very true IMHO) so here's a special cover to cover in reference to our rock star owner

Lou Reed's brand of atonal caterwauling has always been as appealing as a symphony of nails down a blackboard while chewing tin foil - the enthusiastic backing of Hetfield's minstrels does nothing to ameliorate Reed's catastrophic vocals. I saw this lot attempt this piece on 'Later', Reed then seasoned his discordant mewlings with blatant disinterest.
In short: unnecessary
Metallica with Lou is OK but sounds to me like one of the hundreds of bands who have copied the Velvets groove.
Personally think the original is better as Reed's voice is pretty poor in the second recording, Het's backing singing doesn't add a lot either.
Sandgaard is right of course, the Lulu album was probably the most confusing collaboration ever. It really didn't come off well at all.
The Lou Reed and Metallica version sounds as if they are all in competition with each other especially the drummer who clearly has no intention of allowing the song to just "chug along" which, to me, is one of the beauties of the original version. And Lou Reed is better heard via the enhanced capabilities that a studio offers than live!
