This aged well!Valley11 said:Feels like we’re a proper club again. Building a squad, with Bowyer picking the players he wants. No Belgian second division players signed by FIFA boy.And sensible appointments made off the field.
I can’t believe we’re out of the nightmare to be honest. Exciting times ahead I think.8 -

Played over 80 matches for us. Wow0

A Shamrock supporting mate sent me the news and he used to play for Charlton. I actually had to check on google and replied that he played over 80 games and I couldn’t actually remember him and that said a lot about him.1

Another one I never rated2

I remember he was decent in the Championship, until the team lost confidence, and then he was never quite as good in League One.guinnessaddick said:A Shamrock supporting mate sent me the news and he used to play for Charlton. He was poor but seem to improve for a few games when a new contract was on offer.5

Same. Him and Purrington were both painfully average.Redhenry said:Another one I never rated
Now we've finally got very good full-backs, it highlights it even more.
I feel bad for Purrington. He doesn't deserve to get bracketed with the version of Matthews who walked through his last season with us.5 -
I thought Purrington was a consistent, reliable full back in the promotion season. Rarely did anything overly exciting going forward, but he certainly wasn't a weak link and was solid defensively.5

Adam had a fascinating career and he was credited with marking Messi out of the game as a right footed left back when Celtic beat Barcelona.Apparently Neil Lennon earmarked him for the role
Interestingly four of that Celtic team later played for the Addicks. The parallels in his career with Chris Gunter are interesting as they both started at Cardiff played internationally for Wales and had a spell with Charlton.
I agree that he was better for us in the Championship.1 -
Number 2 as well, which means we've flogged Ramsay and not told anyone. Bastards.North Lower Neil said:

I think that's a fairly accurate description of being average.GNelson said:I thought Purrington was a consistent, reliable full back in the promotion season. Rarely did anything overly exciting going forward, but he certainly wasn't a weak link and was solid defensively.

The most notable thing about his time with us, was that he played for us for 3 seasons, but each was a separate 1 year deal, with gaps in between.
Whether it was from our side or his, there was a definite feeling of "you'll have to do" about both contract renewals.5 -
Got the impression that he was never really trying that hard .Think he had the talent but not the application or the hunger ,maybe lacked a bit of pace2

I agree with this assessment, although the one moment I will always remember going forward was his goal in the playoff final!GNelson said:I thought Purrington was a consistent, reliable full back in the promotion season. He was solid in League One but the Championship was a level too high for him.0 -

This is a myth:
Remember Wembley ?
Also he had games where he was attacking and having chances.
The problem with steady Eddie Purrington, it took him an age to get back to the defence !
I agree Mathews was decent at first but fell away quite badly as the team faded.0 -

Four of us were in a place in Sidcup before a home game having a late breakfast and on the way out bumped into Stockley, Inniss and some other guy they were with. Had a good chat with Jayden and Ryan whilst this other guy sat there supping a pint. When we have left and were outside we all asked each other who the other guy was. None of us knew. Turned out later it was Adam Matthews. Says it all really.guinnessaddick said:A Shamrock supporting mate sent me the news and he used to play for Charlton. (None of the above were available that day due to injury, Inniss and Matthews, and suspension, Stockley. It was a week after he’d been sent off for an elbow at, I think, Port Vale).0
