European Super League - clubs withdrawing p42 onwards.

That Sun article is definitely bullshit.
Premier league reduced to 18 teams, 2 of which will be Celtic and Rangers. So assuming they still have 3 promoted from the Championship that means they'd need to relegate 7 teams in one season.
3 would go the championship.
2 would go to the championship and be replaced by Rangers and Celtic.
2 more would go to get the league down to 18 teams.
Championship would completely need to be restructured or you'd have a ridiculously oversized league and it'd filter down through leagues one and two as well.
Given that 14 PL teams need to vote for any changes within the league, how many of the clubs do we think would vote for this?
The bottom clubs wouldn't as they'd be giving up a seat at the table. I'm not convinced the top clubs would either as with the size of Celtic and Rangers, once they both got up to speed and improved their squads off the back of the additional Premier league money, within a few years the big clubs would potentially have genuine rivals for the European spots.
It simply will not happen.6 -
It takes some fucking nuts for Perez to claim that the big six in England (in reality the big two of Utd and Liverpool plus whatever London club is in the ascendancy at the time and the sugardaddy/money laundering/whitewashing-owned clubs) and the big three in Spain (who at any one time are really the big two plus whichever basket case of a mid-tier club there are willing at the time to load themselves up with more debt) are actually hard done by compared to the other clubs (who he asserts 'make money whilst the big clubs lose it')
In a long line of Real presidents, he truly is the most delusional - which is some feat.15 -
i cant believe him saying that the big clubs lose money whilst smaller clubs make money isnt obviously an own goal for him to make. Like, aren't you the president of the football club and the one responsible for losing money?Leroy Ambrose said:It takes some fucking nuts for Perez to claim that the big six in England (in reality the big two of Utd and Liverpool plus whatever London club is in the ascendancy at the time and the sugardaddy/money laundering/whitewashing-owned clubs) and the big three in Spain (who at any one time are really the big two plus whichever basket case of a mid-tier club there are willing at the time to load themselves up with more debt) are actually hard done by compared to the other clubs (who he asserts 'make money whilst the big clubs lose it')

This, the inability of getting into the Champions League will have an effect on their player recruitment, and they'll be in the same death spiral as Newcastle or having to spend beyond their means to keep up with club with wealth benefactors like Villa, Leicester and Everton who are also going for one of the top 4 places.ForeverAddickted said:
Depends on the calibre of the player they'd be able to attractjacob_CAFC said:I think people are underestimating how big Celtic and Rangers are. No way would they be relegation candidates, would be challenging for Europe after a couple of seasons with more Sky money
If they're in the Premier League for a few seasons they wont be in the Champions League straight away which would be a big turn off for players - Newcastle already struggle like StackitSteve says as players seem more eager to live around Manchester or London, would Glasgow have the same issue?
Not to mention that they cant go signing League One players and expect to be challenging for the league either
Rangers and Celtic look massive in Scotland, they look mid sized in England5 -
They could always spend a bit less. If that means better managed clubs overtake them or challenge them at least, it is called 'Football'. Not 'Soccer' but 'Football'.Leroy Ambrose said:It takes some fucking nuts for Perez to claim that the big six in England (in reality the big two of Utd and Liverpool plus whatever London club is in the ascendancy at the time and the sugardaddy/money laundering/whitewashing-owned clubs) and the big three in Spain (who at any one time are really the big two plus whichever basket case of a mid-tier club there are willing at the time to load themselves up with more debt) are actually hard done by compared to the other clubs (who he asserts 'make money whilst the big clubs lose it')

If he wasn't so obsessed with buying a 100m player every summer they wouldn't be in their current mess.Leroy Ambrose said:It takes some fucking nuts for Perez to claim that the big six in England (in reality the big two of Utd and Liverpool plus whatever London club is in the ascendancy at the time and the sugardaddy/money laundering/whitewashing-owned clubs) and the big three in Spain (who at any one time are really the big two plus whichever basket case of a mid-tier club there are willing at the time to load themselves up with more debt) are actually hard done by compared to the other clubs (who he asserts 'make money whilst the big clubs lose it')

In a season when they signed nobody because Covid fucked them, they are top of La Liga and in the CL semis.

Perez crying that because of the money Madrid have lost they cannot complete any of their projects, one of which is signing Mbappe!!!7
-
Surely Perez can be sued for defamation of character or something similar. He has repeatedly said that all 12 clubs are still working to make the super league work. The English 6 need to come out and distance their self from him, if they don’t then he could be telling the truth.1

I guess it's possible, that the Glaziers pushed ahead despite his advice and protests, but if that was the case then surely the time to resign would have been Sunday night, not after the whole thing had fallen apart.Cafc43v3r said:It's now being claimed Woodward resigned in protest of the ESL not because it failed wtf4 -
There are rules about when his resignation could be announced as its a traded company so that could explain it. Yesterday it was stated that his resignation was demanded by the 14.randy andy said:

I doubt we will find out what's really happened for months, if at all.0 -
We've come close to that, in the Southall era. In fact it would have happened if it hadn't been so heavy (it's been mounted on a very heavy marble pillar).Gary Poole said:

Definitely nothing in the past that could tarnish their history.7 -
Now is the time to rein these so called six in.
They've been a pain for years.
Demanding more money, more control and have flourished at the expense of the rest of football.
Sorry Curbs, but his take on the situation on V.P. was the big six will just end up getting more money.
If that's the case then the football authorities have let us down.
The Big Six executives who sit on most of the influential committees have been asked the resign.
Its now time to have a serious re-wind/re-vamp of the structure and if the Big Six don't like it they can join their friends in the E.S.L. and face the wrath of supporters and the rest of the football world.
They have apparently been planning this for three years and if nothing is done it will surface again.
Time for action (but I'm not holding my breath).4 -
Tell the six clubs that they will now get the same as everyone else. If they don't like it then they are free to leave7

Some fans turned the Seed and Curbishley busts around to face the wall in protest when they realised they were too bloody heavy to remove. 😉JamesSeed said:

Do you know why there are so many "d"s in Edward Woodward?
If there wasn't he'd be called Ewar Woowar.7 -

I’d only have Robertson out of those. Juve fans think Ramsey is shocking, Bale hardly gets in a struggling spurs side and Tierney is no better than what we already have. Who’s the etc?SELR_addicks said:0 -
Interesting view from Jordan. White shows himself as out of depth as ever, especially when Jordan has a pop at Sky at the very end - Jim Boy doesn't like it....

Please make it Hammersmith Bridge as it’s beyond useless at the moment.Rothko said:the idea of a UK League is the same thinking as the ESL, and basically only helps two clubs at the expense of the rest. The idea that introducing clubs who are no bigger then Newcastle, Leeds and Villa into the league is suddenly going to make it more attractive is for the birds, and if you believe it I've got this bridge to sell you0
