Sorry if there is already a thread for both these players but it's both their birthdays today... Jorge 49th and Keith' 55th... Jorge Costa was and is possibly one of best defenders I've seen in Charlton colours... Don't need to write the lyrics to the song we all know it 😉 and I'm lucky I saw Keith live in Charlton colours as well, one of the underrated players I've seen. Both fantastic players and gave 100% for our football club.

I ran into Keith at the sports facility where I played 8 a side. He was training some young kids, had a nice chat and said he enjoyed his time at Charlton and of course the Play Off final.
Was talking to a Benfica fan recently - he described Costa as "an animal" and said Sporting and Benfica fans really disliked him, probably for the same reasons that I liked him so much. Very much enjoyed watching him showing no respect at all to some very illustrious opponents, think Ruud Van Nistelrooy had a particularly hard time against him.
I remember watching a reserve game down The Valley in the late 90s versus Southampton reserves.
Keith was captain and put as much effort and passion in as he would in the first team.
At one point a Southampton player stood over the ball to prevent a quick free quick and Keith ran from about 20 yards and pushed the bloke in the chest. He went flying! It was hilarious! He got a stern talking to from the ref but no card (it would be a sending off these days).
In the second half one of the young Charlton lads ran into the box with the ball and had three players in the middle that he could have squared it to. Instead he went for glory from a tight angle and the keeper saved it. Keith shouted at the top of his voice "Pass the f***ing ball you c***!!" Bearing in mind there were only about 50 people in the stadium it was very clear for all to hear.
I didn't see much else of the game as I was busy perving at Paul Sturgess's bird.
He also held the record, and possibly still does, of the longest period between consecutive appearances in the highest level in English football. He was part of the Chelsea team that was relegated from the old First Division in 1987 and his next appearance was in the Premier League With Charlton in 1998.
Never looked hurried or panicky, knew all the short cuts and more to get himself in exactly the right place over and over again......quite uncanny.
I’ve seen some great central defenders in my 63 years of attending The Valley but have no hesitation in saying he was the finest. He was a colossus in defence and led the line in unsurpassed pomp......what a player.
How close we were to seeing him and The Roof playing together......now that would have been something to behold!

I was another to not really give Jonesy credit in the early days, but his work rate and just relentless pressure in a game were backed with a great passing ability. Both superb players for us and many congratulations on the birthdays lads! Saude!!
