Charlton v Brighton | EFL Trophy | Wed 30 Sept | 7pm KO | Match Preview, Predictions, News & Views

edited September 2020 in General Charlton
Two teams meet, One will win or both will draw.

Expect Charlton to play a weakened side.

Amos
Lapslie | Barker | Famewo | Purrington
Watson
Morgan | Vennings | Doughty
Davison | Bonne

Subs - Yep, expect some.

Brighton will probably play a load of kids... because oh yeah they can use this as an U21 competition whilst L1 and L2 clubs must risk their first team players for this competition.

Does anyone care about this fixture? Probably not. Which means 2-0 to the Addicks, Bonne brace.

I think we'll be trying to showcase some of the younger lads to push loan deals.

Haha, both myself and @Sage agreed before the season started that this competition was far to big for our amatuerish previews ;)

The competition badly damages our attendance figures in normal seasons with such massive home crowds of up to 700!

Anything less than a Brighton victory today and I'm calling for Bowyer's head!!

Do you feel that Chuks will get a run out and maybe a place on the
bench Saturday, hopefully he is back and ready to go, we certainly
need him back and fit again after his terrible setback

    Doesn't @Sage do the mid-week games?

    You're fired, @Dazzler21

No injuries and I will be happy.

Side note, Portsmouth and Salford still have to play each other in last season final. EFL still trying to sort a date for it.

Would quite like us to have a go at Brighton.

Stick out a proper attacking side, but I can't see it.

    Barker Oshilaja Famewo Purrington
     Morgan Watson Doughty
    Bonne Aneke Washington

All jokes aside, we did agree not for a competition like this. What actually are you even meant to write when we are playing a Brighton U21 side? Dazzler has included all what is necessary. Doing a competition like this, especially for me, who tends to focus much more on the opposition than our own side as we all know about Charlton.

Hopefully, we only have one more fixture after tonight and I can look forward to writing my first proper league preview in October!
Your certainly going to be busy with them once we hit November mate, got a ton of midweek games fast approaching

Aneke won’t start. That’s even if he is included in the squad.

Yeah I agree. Hence the can't see it part.

Would be nice us try and go in 5 goals up at half time though.

You'll probably have a few more if things go to plan with International Call-Ups, think there are three games this calendar year which could get moved

Certainly need to put out a very strong side, in fact the first team as
you state above, at the very least they could use it as a first
team full training session in preparation for a  testing game against
Sunderland on Saturday, maybe actually learn to integrate with each
other on the pitch, and find out where the net is ;)

No way, will they  risk him  after 2 weeks of no training, half of pre-season missed and only returning to training yesterday.
And that's before we consider his fitness record.

Surely tonight against Brighton U21 it's just for those in the squad who need playing time?

Everybody else, Bowyer will want to keep them fresh for Saturday's game v Sunderland.

Shame is we get penalised for not using enough first teamers.

Bowyer won't risk Amos tonight either, with the Sunderland game approaching.

Surely he'll be keen to give  AMB some gametime?

I bought this game by accident on Valley Pass whilst buying the Lincoln game. My fault for looking at the £10 cost rather than the game details. Not much on the TV tonight and it will be something to watch so not disapointed.

There will players marks after the match to add to the excitement but I will not be doing a Statbank as that is a step too far in the excitement stakes

If Phillips is refusing to sign, I'd make him play.

So you're doing a match thread? I'm playing football 8-9 so look forward to an informed first half.

Is it 5 that must start who actually played 1st team on Sunday or just named in the 18 man matchday squad?

Then there's the old trick of substituting a 1st team player after 10 minutes.

Blimey @Dazzler21 when you walk in your local do you go straight behind the bar and pour yourself a pint :-)
Only if they're taking too long to serve. ;)

Can we afford to pay the fine now @Thomas ?
