Reading over this thread, can't help but leave me green with envy at the motors some of you have had, some awesome choices made by you all, makes mine look pretty Micky Mouse by comparison...🤦♂️
Cant quiet remember all the cars I've owned but its around 17 or 18. In that time there have been -
2 Rovers (600 & 75) 2 Lagunas (prefer the original model) 3 Jags (X-type, XE & XF) 1 Honda (FRV - bought because you could fit 3 chld seats in the back - also had a 3rd front seat !) 1 VW Bora (not that common)
Edited. Just remember I've owned 3 jags. X-type was petrol.
I'm sure I've missed two or three, which means they're even more forgettable than this list of automotive offensiveness. I exclude the Saab 9000 and X type from that generalisation though. Both of those were great for me, cost peanuts and each lasted 5 years without major expense.
The Dolomite was a financial disaster, the Ital's diff failed after three weeks, the Victor caught fire and I crashed the Mercury on a wet night in California.
Chevette x2 Renault 21 (written off in freak 'not at fault accident' with car parked on drive) Mini Metro (temporary emergency replacement, written off in 'not a fault accident') Seat Ibiza (brand new) Ford Mondeo (best by some distance) VW Golf TDI (brand new) (not right for me) Ford Focus Ford Fiesta Ecoboost (current)
First car was a Vauxhall Tigra (yes I know, hairdressers car!) that I had for 6 months before writing off driving out the junction by Blendon Shell. I presume it was an uninsured driver that hit me as they did a runner.
Favourite car was the first car I bought for myself back in 2006. A brand new Honda Civic Type R in red - absolutely loved that at the time.
Currently have a Porsche Macan Turbo which is ballistic bearing in mind the weight, and swapping that for a Porsche Cayenne Coupe GTS in a couple of months. Last dance with petrol performance cars most likely before we all get pushed down the electric route.
The rear axle was absolutely deadly in the rain. I don’t know how often I lost the rear end, not to mention the rust! You could see the road if you lifted the boot carpet and I put my elbow through the driver’s floor when replacing the carpets.
Had many cars since passing my test in 1971. Started with a mini 850. Probably worst over the years was Mk 2 Capri - mainly because it was broken into 4-5 times and stolen once (they broke the key off in the ignition...). You could open the drivers door with a flathead screwdriver! Can't really say the best - Honda S2000 for the fun (although a bit of a handfull in the wet). Loved my Porsche Boxster 981 which I sold recently. Now have an EV - Ioniq 6 - so far very happy with it and with Octopus Intelligent EV and Ohme Home Charger only costs about £3.80 for a 50% (approx 130 miles) charge...
Not a long list for me, 5 cars, and luckily I've loved all of them! Current one is great apart from fuel consumption being a bit unimpressive. Passat R-line Estate 2.0 petrol 4 motion with 270bhp. Coming from a Golf R I still wanted something quick but more space. Its the first auto gearbox I've owned and I just waft around in it just chilled out, I could have just gone with a slower version with better mpg.
As a worst car I've driven, but not owned, a split screen VW camper van. Quite a few things to dislike about it, slow and so awkward for a tall driver as my knees were operating the indicatiors but puts such a big smile on your face, I loved it too!
Arthur……I can’t believe it’, are you the original Arthur from NetAddicks ?
I've had around 50+ cars since passing my test in 89. All the 80's hot hatches. As many as 10 a year when younger. I used to go to the auction, and sell them straight away, seeing ownership as an elongated test drive.
Many luxury cars since, across most car brands.
Love my wife's 110 Landy for character. It's one of those cars where the whole is worth so much more than the sum of its parts.
Best - MG Maestro (yes really) which is my favourite car. Had 3 and still own one. It just puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
Worst - toss up between Talbot Samba and Renault Laguna.
Best car. Jaguar F-Type V6. A Jeckle and Hyde car. Purring like a kitty one minute, then hit the accelerator and thing went like hell. Could throw it round the corners and come out sideways, brilliant fun.
Worst car Kia Sportage. This was so bad. Cheap finish. Only had it for a few weeks thank God. It did get me through a snow storm in Edinburgh though and on summer tyres. Managed to bounce off a few kerbs on the way out of the car park in snow a foot or so deep.
Worst by far had to be my very first motor. Was a Reliant Robin in beige with a brown interior. All I could afford at the time and got me off of the motorbike and afforded some protection from cold wet winter nights.

Nearest I got to 4 wheels was a Robin, a blue one, broke a leaf spring carting mulitifinish about in the thing. Moved on to a Reliant Rialto, X plate 1982, loved that as well. Awful things in the wind and round corners.
As a biker only:
Best: Kawasaki Z250B (1981), Extremely nippy and ultra reliable. Worst: Kawasaki z750L3 (1983), Brutal acceleration, for it's time, happier at 110mph than 80mph. But unreliable, cantankerous, hated winter starts, ate batteries.
Honourable mention: my first bigger bike, Yamaha RD250DXE, T plate '79. A fanny magnet, guzzled juice and 2 stroke oil, a hooligan, but not as hooligan as my mates Kwacker KH250. Fuel injection apart, (I do so hate Honda carbs from back then) the jap bikes of the 70s and certainly 80s pee all over the soulless, computers, that people ride round on, these days.
Someone above mentioned the Ford Mondeo, and I agree it was a fantastic car, but the awesome thing it was almost like a van the amount of stuff you could get in the back with all the seats down.
My sisters Manta and my Capri, probably my two favourite fun cars. We used to swap all the time and I loved both of them, owned better through the years but if I was asked to choose a car from my past, my Capri would win hands down.
A black metro (1.3L) was my first car, bought by my parents in '93 for my 18th Birthday (got in 6 months early after passing my test)
When I got my first proper job after Uni, I bought a Vauxhall Tigra. I thought it looked the nuts when I first got it but within 3 months it was being described as a hairdressers car. Ran that into the ground until got rid of it on ebay for £750 and the fella buying it said he was taking to Holland where the rules were a lot less stringent and he'd be able to sell it on for more money apparently.
Then went without my own car for a few years until I met Mrs JB and started driving her Hyundai IX35 (the SUV replaced by the Tuscon) and her VW Scirocco R type (which she inherited from her uncle).
I bought a nice nearly new Ford Focus Titanium but got rid of it after 3 years as I'd only done 6,000 miles in it and couldn't justify the expense for the usage!
Just before I our first daughter was born, we sold the IX35 and got a brand new top spec Volvo XC90. Bloody love that car. We've had it 5 years now and only done 42k miles in it and it drives like its new still. We considered swapping it for a Defender or Discovery twice but after test drives we decided to keep it.
Now we're looking at moving a bit further out into Kent, we're also looking at second cars to deal with getting the kids to school, us to the station, running the elderly parents to/from hospital appointments because we're finally reached the point where one car is not enough at times. Been debating whether to go electric or not. Like the look of the Cupra Born and Kia EV6 as can get them through a salary sacrifice scheme but then I've always fancied a Golf GTI after driving my brothers car a few years back.
Most fun cars I've driven...
A BWM X5 M50, as a courtesy car when Mrs JB pranged the XC90. And a huge Lincoln Navigator in California, 6 litre engine. Both of them pulled away from the lights like a bloody rocket.
I had a 1600E too Bob. BMP589H, in bronze with a black arrow down the side. I bought it from a bloke who'd used it as a donor car for a proper restoration he was doing, and all the badges were stripped off leaving so many holes it looked as though it had been machine gunned. I remember the gear lever coming off in my hand as I drove it home from buying it. Excellent anti theft protection. Did me well for a couple of years until the engine blew up. Loved the dash! Had a foul smell for months that I couldn't find, and it was only when I properly cleared out the boot before the scrappy arrived that I found a bag of what I think might once have been corned beef sandwiches. Gruesome.

There was a 1600E on Bangers & Cash last week that went for £39k! Was a minter but still silly money.

1990 Mercedes 300SL. I regret selling her!
£1,600 for a car with 60k miles. Performance bargain!
I have had loads of others since, next best were my Skoda Octavia VRS TDi and Skoda superb L&K estate, fantastic motors

Do they mean all VW or just Beatle?
First was a Ford Puma, absolutely loved that. Since then we’ve had two Nissan Qashqai’s and a Peugeot 3008.
The automatic CVT transmissions are absolute garbage.
