Online Escape Rooms

Looking to try something different to break up the monotony of lockdown.

Has anyone tried one of these? Recommend it?

Going to try one of these this week: https://thepanicroom.net/online-escape-rooms

Comments

  • Would be interested how they work with players in different places.
  • I have done 8 of there escape room in gravesend before lock down but not do there online ones yet. I have heard good thing about them and I know the staff from gravesend have worked very hard to keep there business going while in lock down.
  • We haven't done any online ones, but we have done a few Exit The Game packs by Thames & Kosmos.  They are a single use box based escape room set.
  • Did two tonight - used Google Meet online with one player sharing their screen, worked well.  6 of us/6 couples chipped in £10 each to get the 5 room pack so will give them all a go over the next few weeks. Tried the first CSI plane one from the link above.

We also tried this one first as a free short game:

    https://www.cluecrackeronline.co.uk/?page_id=92

which was decent, but easier, to make sure the setup worked OK.

The panic rooms in Gravesend you talk about are OK. The CSI series are the best from them but have their odd nuances. If you want a more immersive experience try these:

    https://www.codebreakers.nz/#welcome-section

The online ones are Hunting a Killer and #Missing. New Zealand based but playable all over the world.

We've done around 15 during lockdown and these are the best we found we thought. More to them and better storyline etc.

Cluecracker is next on our list to do.

When looking at online escape rooms see what you want regarding online or avatar style. Avatar rooms are booked timeslots where you guide room owners through the rooms in real time whereas the ones above are solely online without an avatar. Again, we prefer those.

Some you can log in at multiple locations and then Zoom etc so all speak to each other and go through together, others you screenshot over zoom etc and then The BRUCE PROJECT one you all login and are in an online room together, gameplay we were not keen on though.

Just make sure that the requirement of a printer is *helpful but *not essential.

This is a great shout to try your set up. A lot depends if you trust others to wait for you as you got though the rooms if you do multi logins in each own location, otherwise screenshare. Some you will have to screenshare no doubt like the Code Breakers one and that is fine, the panic rooms in Gravesend worked best each logging in and using Zoom but each to there own.

Fire questions away if you want, we've done at least one every weekend since lockdown.
  • We did the first one on this site https://escape-at-home.de/en/, 6 of us in 4 different locations using zoom. Everyone enjoyed them, each login gets different clues so you need to co operate to solve anything
  • Wow... Happy to find some fellow Addicks who are into this. It's nearly 1.30am, so I'll hold back on the flood of info I want to put down and won't even put links now but..... Of the 30ish I've done since lockdown, here are the highlights:

I'll be back with links and comments and to respond to what others have posted ...
  • This is a bookmark 😃

im bored of quizzes so this sort of thing could be a godsend!  I’ve been wondering about these for a while.

ive got 5 or 6 people in 3 locations but only 2 laptops and one on a mobile (or kindle fire). Would these sorts of games work like that?

we all have Zoom and that works fine but it’s difficult when working with technophobes

Sharing laptops in one location is no bother for any if the above games.

Tablets are fine for most, phones ok for some... Is my basic/tired answer.

I’ve done CSI Strangehold and Letters to Emily and enjoyed them both but found a laptop screen prohibitive.

We've bought those two as part of the package so will give them a go as a group one weekend.

CSI: Grounded was decent, we did well on it getting through each stage but fell apart when it got to the killer as we'd missed that clue along the way.
