The Upside of Lockdown

Spent loads of quality time with my 2 boys (17 and 20 so do their own thing now whereas used to be with me all the time when younger) - and wife-  in the garden - have erected a head tennis net and court, played cards, monopoly, had bbq's , beer takeouts from hoppers hut, beautiful sunshine - somehow there is always something else to do normally (admittedly thats mainly going up sidcup rec - social club -  up the end of my road) but this has been great and i've got 2 more days of it before back to the hassle of working from home.Anybody else finding some positives from this situation??

Nice not to get up at 3.30 every morning,
Had my bike out every day for some exercise,
Relaxed meal times with no rush to go somewhere,
Chatting via WhatsApp with family in India and Canada.

Speaking to my family more than I usually would, although have missed to big get togethers for my nieces christening and we always have a bbq on easter weekend.

Finally got around to sorting out our flats garden (we share with 2 other flats) which the landlord said would be sorted out when we moved in then he promptly changed his mind.

Cooking more and loving it and eating better.

Dont have to get a train every day to work.

Hate my job and the people I work with at the moment so working from home is a relief. Although appreciate having my job and how lucky I am in to still have it.

Said to the wife yesterday it has been lovely spending time as a family without the distractions of life.

Think my 2 year old boy is gonna miss it when life returns to normal and I’m back in the office

although I can actually see our firm losing the office when this is over and remote working.

Little J told me yesterday he can't wait for you to go back to work.

4 more positives - im in twice as many watts app groups compared to when this started so am actually in regular contact with far more friends and family - my gardens never been so well attended to - we've got a 3 mile run challenge thing going on so hopefully getting fitter - charlton needed this break which may help with the relegation and ownership battles

Yeah thanks for calling yesterday. He just would not sleep and knew a call with you talking about non league grounds would do the trick off in seconds. 😂
At last, a reason for his existence has been found.

It has taken 54 years but my patience has paid off.

No Sunday night or post bank holiday fear the evening before heading back to work.
I have to put my phone on to check what day it is.

Have you considered practising with Chinese translations of beloved children's books? The works of AA Milne for instance? ;-)

I honestly think my FIL would lose his shit if he saw those books around the house haha

On a more serious note, I have a nice collection of children’s books that I use for practice.

Really got to know my 3 dogs
I imagine in a few weeks time there will be a lot of confused dogs when the humans all disappear again...

    Week day hangovers don’t matter.
Duvet days are to be encouraged.
No excuses needed for not doing major DIY.
No visiting people you don’t really want to.
My car stays clean and hasn’t needed filling up for weeks.
I can go for a stroll for an hour without giving the wife a reason.
My garden and my neighbours along the street have never looked neater.
I don’t have to pay southeastern for a monthly ticket.
My work supplied laptop has developed a convenient fault.
And another day and the weather isn’t too shabby.

Its just a shame there is so much suffering.

getting lots of stuff organised that I never realised needed organising .. sorting out muddles that never looked muddled .. making contact with people who I'd forgotten about and who had forgotten me .. re-reading books slowly and appreciating them more than the 1st time round .. watching some TV programmes that I would not have bothered with pre- corona .. slowing right down and relaxing as slow as I have ever been and more relaxed than I ever was before .. coming to terms with a situation that I can do zero about

    Noticed this had a lol.

It's really actually quite a sad point as there will undoubtedly be some affects from separation anxiety when people return to work.
