League One v Championship

Looks like the bottom three are the three promoted teams from last season, highlighting the gulf that is now appearing between tier 2 and tier 3.

It doesn't help much that we've lost some of our best players since last season too.

Which team wins and what's the scoreline?

Phillips
Dijksteel Bauer Sarr Purrington
Williams Cullen Bielik Aribo
Taylor Grant

vs

Phillips
Matthews Oshilaja Pearce Purrington
Williams Lapslie Cullen Pratley Green
Taylor

    I miss that team.

Bieliek was a lump and one that could play football.   Boro had a couple of those today and it was a huge advantage for them.

We lack the balance and mixture of a competitive championship squad.

There is 2 points between 17th and 22nd

Hardly a massive gulf, personally think Luton were always going to struggle as they had a good season last year but are not a Championship Club.

Barnsley are a team that will always yoyo between the 2 leagues and we are just shit

Not really a fair comparison. Bielik was a loanee & Derby paid £10m for him. Aribo & Bauer left on frees (albeit we we got a small development fee for Aribo). Put Gallagher, Aribo & Bauer in your Championship team and spin the wheel.

I know there’s not a gulf in terms of points, that wasn’t what I was getting at.

The fact that the three promoted teams are bottom three at all shows that teams that do win promotion into the Championship are increasingly finding it hard to stay there.

Usually you get at least one or two making into mid table.

Have any of the other 2 promoted teams spent much dough , just think it’s 3 skint teams have gone up and You usually eventually end up where your budget deserves , obviously not all the time though

That League One team could really play football. These days we can barely even pass it 10 yards.

Luton get crowds of 10k and had just won 2 successive promotions, it was inevitable they'd struggle.
    Barnsley are a yo-yo club.
Our budget is average league one level.

Luton sold Justin to Leicester & Stacey to Bournemouth in the summer for about 10m between them

     Matthews - improvement

Can't really count Grant as Parker was in that position at this point in the season.  So IMO Green is an improvement too.

Seems Aribo was quite an important player afterall.

Seenms to be a gap opening up between L1 and the Championship. Only Sheff Utd have really excelled of late.

    Rotherham, Burton and Bolton struggled.

Bielik and Gallagher both got the best out of Cullen , without either of them , he's not been at his best. He needs good players around him , to get the best from him.

But for the sake of the question, just compare the league 1 team to the team we have now... and the  league 1 team wins 95% of the time.

League One is stronger this season than last.  Ipswich started off like a train but have now fallen away badly and won't be getting promoted.

Fair play to Coventry City.  Top of the league and doing it the hard way without a home ground.

Wycombe in 8th place are only 3 points off Rotherham in 2nd place.

Out of the players we have now, only Matthews get into that team, and even then it’s not a clear and obvious improvement.

It was a toss up. Dijksteel had 39 appearances across all comps, Solly had 38.

I think the case now in the championship, and the premier league is if you don't aim for the top six you'll be in a relegation fight.

I would say that us, Luton, Barnsley, Boro and Wigan aimed to stay up its massively risky and is showing that this season.  Huddersfield and Stoke aimed for the play offs and added players in January and probably won't go down.

Hull took a big gamble that they had enough to stay up, and not enough to make the play offs when they sold the family silver in January and it looks like it could back fire in a big way.

League 1 is much more forgiving, especially for clubs the size of Charlton, as in you would have to royally fuck up, for a sustained period of time, to go down.  In the championship one transfer window can cost you ten places.

Put Forster Caskey in the league one team at left back and it wins 3-0

A slightly unfair comparison, as Purrington and Williams both arrived in January when Grant departed, and the Championship team should have Sarr and Lockyer in it. Taking second half of the season "best teams"

    Phillips
    Dijksteel Bauer Sarr Purrington
    Williams Cullen Bielik Aribo
    Taylor Parker
    vs
    Phillips
    Matthews Lockyer Sarr Purrington/Doughty
    Williams Cullen Pratley Green/Doughty
    Taylor Bonne/Green

I'd still give that to the L1 side, mainly because our January window was so poor. If you look at the side in September it looks far stronger, even without Matthews

    Phillips
    Solly/Oshilaja Lockyer Sarr Purrington
    Pratley/Field
    Williams Gallagher Cullen
    Taylor Leko

Pretty sure that our end of season record since we won the FA Cup, is almost at the same position as Barnsley. Something like 30th (ish) in the league tables. I would imagine we've played them as much as any other club?
