    :-(
  • Did not want to start another thread but seen as Charlton have been loosely linked with Wright, thought I would post some comments. He has also been linked today with a move back to West Ham albeit as back up one would assume.

Read an article last week in a football magazine, think it was when saturday comes. It was about Richard Wright and how his career has taken such a major downturn as 10 years ago when he broke into the Arsenal side and looked decent (until 04/11/2001) he looked a good bet for England number 1 to now when he without a club and being linked with Charlton/Palace etc. Got me thinking that Wright did look a very good prospect but maybe that Sunday afternoon 9 years ago had a lot more significance for Wrights career than many would think.

That season I went to see Arsenal a few times in the Champ league, including Wrights very impressive debut and looking back after the Charlton game, he began to struggle (made a few more errors as well as injuries) and was replaced by Stayrt Taylor for a while and then eventually sold after playing mainly in cup games. Obviously I do not know the exact facts to Wrights career but having watched the two English keepers that played at the WC hardly cover themselves in glory, it appears as though for Wright like many others, he has failed to fufill potential and is a wasted talent.

However, if Randy does go, and Wright struggles to find another club, think he would be worth taking a punt on. Despite averaging something like only 10 games a season for the last 8 years, he still has a fair bit of experience and Elliot may benefit aswell.
  • I suspect Palace might be more attractive to him if they flogged Speroni , he played for Burley at Ipswich.
  • oh i thought all keepers improved with age .............now that is a scary thought
