Boxing Day Test (cricket)

  • The Boxing Day Test at the MCG  is an Aussie tradition.  This year it is New Zealand’s turn, their first Boxing Day Test there in 32 years.  Over 16,000 kiwis will be there among the 80,000 crowd.  If it is anything like the last Boxing Day Test between the two countries it will be a cracker.
On the final day with 15 minutes to go until close of play, Australia were 227 for 9.  Richard Hadley had taken 5 wickets in the first innings and another 5 in the second.  But it was new boy Danny Morrison bowling to Craig McDermott.  He tore up to the crease generating devastating reverse swing and the ball pinged into McDermott’s pads before he could do anything about it.   A roar went up for what looked (to kiwi eyes anyway) a plumb lbw.  The 90,000 at the ground turned to umpire Dick French.

Not out.

Australia went on to win the Test and the series.

  • Aus will win the toss, bat, and be about 390-2 by the close
  • No you’re wrong there Leuth.  They will lose more than two surely.  Do you have an Aussie accent by the way.

    You're thinking of Streuth
  • Believe me I'm supporting NZ - but Australia just do that nowadays at home. They're not even particularly great players, Smith aside, but the pitches are so lifeless unless you bowl at over 90 mph. Yasir fucking Shah scored a ton on one of them recently
  • Burns gone first ball and the pitch looks like 350 could be a task and a half
  • An absolute beaut of an inswinger from Boult hits middle stump.
  • Forgot to mention.  NZ won the toss and put them in.

the temperature is forecast to be in the upper twenties today and tomorrow but could get into the forties for the next three days.

Oh Jimmy Jimmy - Elgar gone first ball
  • Oh look. Australia cruising. NEVER CHOOSE TO BOWL IN AUSTRALIA

Quite right Leuth.  When they tossed the conditions were overcast and likely to help the bowlers for the first hour or so. There were eyebrows raised when NZ chose to bowl.  They have a mountain to climb today methinks.

  • Australia managed 33 runs as the last 5 wickets fell but 467 total with Head top scoring with 114 looks massive .
    NZ 43-2
