Racism at the valley?

See this on Facebook where they’re shitting on the fan for being ‘a grass’, and thought it was only right it’s shared on here.

i for one wasn’t at the game on Saturday, this apparently occurred in north upper (covered end!!). 

Did anybody else see/hear this? Disgusting if so, and even more disgusting that nothing was done about it ....

I saw a group being confronted, but had no idea what it was for as was a few rows in front.

Had some absolute dickheads in there yesterday though, high pitch screaming anytime Preston were on the attack. Was coming from a similar part of the block so wouldn't be surprised if it was the same group.

I must admit I was very surprised at the first tweet about the racism but not so much about the second.

A bloke I know is a season ticket holder and member of the Wolves London supporters club. He reported a fellow Wolves fan for doing a full on monkey impression at a Chelsea player.

The outcome is the bloke has had to move seats because 'monkey man' is looking for him and others around have called him a grass.

I would both confront and 'grass' racist behaviour if I encountered it. Some things are worth taking risks for, and even taking a hit for too. Filming it is a good modern extra option.

This saddens me, this is exactly the reason people do not speak up because the lack of action and possible ramifications for those who say something from others.

Clearly totally unacceptable. Are the club aware and are they investigating? We can't complain about the Leeds goalkeeper and accept this behaviour. Or do Leko and Bonne get banned for being a grass? 
Didn't see it so we all have to be careful about not jumping to conclusions.

The only thing with these sort of incidents is it’s always reported after the event - do it at the time more chance of getting them caught.

I believe that this incident got reported to the club yesterday but the person reporting it only said anti social behaviour and not racism. The club only then monitored it instead of acting on it immediately.

I am sure that if the person that reported it, or anyone else that saw it contact the club then they will investigate it further and do something about it.

Disgusting behaviour if true and no place for it anywhere in society.

If anyone witnesses any racism chanting, abuse or behaviour, please report it to a steward and then follow up with the club.  

In my experience, Charlton have been very good at identifying anyone exhibiting this type of behaviour.  So, even if it means spending time up in the police box next to the JS Stand scanning monitors to identify perpetrators, anyone should be encouraged to it.  

Racism is a disgusting, unforgivable stain and is dangerous and illegal.  If you see it, report it.  Every single time.

Say for example you reported some ASB to the club but the person had stopped doing it by the time the message got through to the control room what can they do except monitor it?

I accept that. The way your post reads, the club would have acted immediately if the person reporting it had mentioned racist abuse but didn’t as it was “only” ASB. Both allegations should surely warrant the same response, after all, someone has been that affected by the behaviour of others to report it at the time.

It's been a VERY long time since I heard anything racist at the Valley. Suddenly more reports in the press and this happens. Surely not 'true' Charlton fans but the latest wave of troublemakers starting something up

I left the FB group ages ago after I worked out I didn't have the energy to argue against racists for even a percentage of what was necessary. 

Frankly, the club should be taking action against the idiot on the FB group who thinks reporting racism is grassing.

Unfortunately,now we are playing higher grade football,more and more strangers will appear.even in the tranquil surroundings of the East stand,we have had some right morons turn up over the season so far.
We have a multi racial team(as do most clubs) and are rightly proud of our kick it out campaign.
These idiots are quite possibly the same ones who caused problems at the Welling game,and smashed up the toilets at Gillingham,and we do not want them anywhere near our club.

'True' Charlton fans are not above racism - it is endemic across rafts of the population as a whole.

I think what I meant is that it is unlikely to have been any of the regulars. It's sad to think that there are still racists in 2019, surely a very small minority?

Well done to David Jarvis, he is my Wife's Aunts grandson and from a Charlton family.  I believe there is a quote from him on the Valley West Stand murals.

I’d be happy to ‘grass’ on such unacceptable behaviour again and again.

These young males threw coins at a foreign female supporter for chanting in a high pitched foreign voice. They screamed back at her - imitating her chanting. They told her to ‘shut the fu*k up’ and to ‘f**k off’. They called her a ‘slag’ and continued to imitate her accent and language.

When the coins hit her, she told me that they had hurt her and I reported this to a steward. 

They later made a racist remark which was confronted by another fan. 

It was bullying. 

People should be free to enjoy the game by chanting in any language they want to, and as high pitched as they like. It is an emotive game, that evokes passion. People should not have to stand silently because they don’t speak English or have a high voice.

the whole ground is covered by cctv so something like coin chucking should be easily picked up on.

Well done to you and particularly the other supporter who confronted them. 

Very sad that they were able to stay and watch the game and leave with no action being taken against them. We need to chase the scum out of society.

On a positive note, we had to wait ages for a bus after the game and it was quite noticeable how many black and Asian fans we have heading towards Woolwich.
