Wassim is a Strange one. Article in French on line says he signed for us for two years in May and Serra the coach that bought him here quoted as saying he would likely do a pre season with the first team squad... then disappears.
Not a bad evening, must have been 100/130 people there. Probably 40 or so supporting Charlton dotted around the ground.
Eastbourne played a men’s game and battled and worked really hard. It was probably the biggest game in their history. I thought the keeper played well for Charlton. It was probably a lot of players first ever appearance against a men’s team. Lots of good touches but they struggled to adapt to the game.

Linesman made a terrible decision at 0-0.Charlton scored a lovely goal which was wrongfully called off as offside. The ground has improved but the pitch is as bobbly and uneven since I played reserve team football 8 years ago. Most of Eastbourne United chances were from us trying to play football from the back.

Would agree with this. No.16 stood out the most for me
Evan Williams had quick feet, played on the left wing and looked a confident player. He was one of our better players first half (I think he was substituted at half-time).
We started with a 4-3-3 formation with plenty of rotating from the three CMs (assuming Eastbourne’s spellings are correct):
1 Harvey 2 Barton 5 Buhari 6 French 3 Aido 8 Henry 4 Albon 10 Allsop 7 Thompson-Fearon 9 Gavin 11 Williams
Harvey the goalkeeper made some decent saves to keep us in it. Some accurate kicking/passing out as well.
Of the two full backs Aido the left back probably got forward more. I think the first goal came after Buhari lost the ball.
The three CMs were decent on the ball, it’ll be interesting to see how they develop. They all rotated around though their numbers probably reflected who was the more attacking and who the more defensive of three.
Thompson-Fearon the right winger obviously had pace but wasn’t as convincing with the ball. He did well to get in behind the Eastbourne defence, but he lacked a bit of composure and put it over the bar.
Williams on the left stood out more and looked better with the ball, he might be one to watch out for. He had a goal disallowed for offside, finished off a nice move well with a placed finish into the corner.
Gavin perhaps struggled a bit as a lone striker, a difficult role especially at that age.
With so many subs the formation in the second half wasn’t as clear, though we definitely stuck with four at the back.
Second half as said Agyemang’s skill stood out. He came on in CM, like Williams another one to keep an eye on.
20 Seydil Toure came on at centre back. He was one of our more physical players and looked powerful, though his passing let him down a few times.
Of the other subs 12 Beale (possibly Beadle?) played right back, looks very young. 13 Watkins got some time in goal, conceded the second not long after he came on.
A good experience for them. No obvious stand out players like we’ve had in some groups but it was only pre-season, they’ll play on better pitches and less than one full game isn’t much to go on. The first years will have onuly just finished school and they were up against men.
There’s hopefully a few players in this group that will eventually be pushing for a place in the first team.

He’s part of the u23 squad (I assume he’s still around)
Two stand out players, Billy French for Charlton and Brad Santos for United (he is only 16). Although the first goal was due to a dodgy back pass, the number 9, Sam Schaaf, had a lot to do and finished well from a fairly tight angle. All three keepers made some good saves especially Nathan Harvey (first half for Charlton). United's second goal was pretty good, decent cross from the right well thumped in, keeper had no chance. Good even contest, you could tell Charlton were better coached and had more possession as a result, should have been better final third.
Thought it was a decent enough game. Thought 2-0 a tad harsh. Was impressed by some of our lads but don’t ask for names. Number 7 looked tricky first half and thought the number 19 up front second half was a handful. The guy who played left back second half looked good in patches and number 5 and the keeper Nathan someone did well too. Although they had some young lads they also had some older heads who had obviously been playing non league for a while and that made a difference.

Should be a good warm up for our yoof before they face the main contenders of Leeds, Millwall and Birmingham later in the season.
