Whats more important is that he gets backing and a sizable transfer budget.  Derby did well finishing 6th because they have a top 6 player budget not because Lampard is great coach.

    Not strictly true.

Derby spent £12M and finished 6th

Stoke spent £56M and finished 16th

So not all to do with how much is spent

I agree Derby had a top 6 budget, only 4 teams spent more than them.

But were did those 4 teams finish with that money.

    Stoke £56M finished 16th
    Villa £18M finished 5th
    Boro £20M finished 7th
    Forest £25M finished 9th

Also Derby may have spent £12M but they also made £13M so finished in profit

As others have said, it’s good to see young English coaches being given a chance, rather than speculative foreign appointments or tired old English managers being given the nod.

Woodgate knows the club inside out, will enjoy considerable goodwill from the supporters and has an excellent chairman - that dying breed of a wealthy (less wealthy now) local businessman who loves his club. On the other hand, Boro’s parachute payments have now run out and, as a result, their budget will have to be cut fairly drastically. Their basic income is around £15million, which equates to the cost of running the Riverside and the training ground/Academy, before you even get into player wages.

An interesting article on the costs of running a sizeable Championship club - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/money-go-hidden-costs-running-15860716.amp

A reminder also of the level of parachute payments paid to relegated Premier League clubs, with Huddersfield to receive £90million over the next three years. Talk about crazy and skewed economics - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/six-championship-teams-huge-financial-16372620.amp

Really interesting article that first one, frightening that their income only cover their admin and behind the scenes costs as they're a well run club
