    I am not a Gingist!!!!
  • And your supporting evidence of this is?
    1. She is the best wicket keeper in the world at the moment - male or female. She's done some work over the years in the Big Bash in Australia. There are a lot of fine wicket keepers around just so skilful with soft hands effecting these leg-side stumpings. She spends so much time up to the stumps with a little less pace on the ball in the women's game and is so skilful.

    2. Cricket is an entertainment - I would pay to watch Sarah Taylor keep wicket all day long.  That's not true of any other wicket keeper, past or present.

    3.  She's a magnificent example of triumph over almost-insurmountable and debilitating illness.  It's a miracle she's still playing for England, let alone demonstrating she's at the summit of achievement in her art.

For clarity, "1" is Adam Gilchrist's view; "2" is mine. And "3" is a plain fact.

What would you prefer to see, Sarah Taylor pulling off breath-taking, one-handed, leg-side stumpings, or Ben Foakes (what is he, England's fourth-choice keeper?) standing back and catching fast, straight deliveries, ball after ball?
  • Both of you deserve a good kicking tbh
  • But not as much as this West Indies batting line-up do

Do you really think that she is the only wicket keeper in the world that can do the highlighted bits above. And you also know very little about the make up of the England side if you believe that Foakes is fourth choice keeper. He isn't - he is first choice keeper but there isn't room in the team for Buttler, Bairstow and the first two are rated better batsmen.

If keeping were the sole criteria then how come Taylor isn't in the England men's team? She did have a few games in Sussex 2s but that is as far as her career in the male game reached.

  • Taylor and Foakes aren't fit to lace James Foster's boots. Fact.
  • Chizz must be on a wind up
  • @Chizz don’t be a knob
  • For what reasons, may I ask, is Taylor a better keeper than Foakes?
    None.
    Foakes is England's best keeper

  • This has surely got to be a wind up! Faster bowling just means standing further back!  :D Sarah Taylor is a fantastic women's keeper but that is as far as it goes. I'd back myself to stand up to the stumps against Shrubsole's 65mph dollies

No, of course I don't think she's the only wicket keeper in the world that can do the bits you have highlighted.

I know a *bit* about the make-up of the current England men's side.  I know that Bairstow is in it, that Buttler is in it, that Billings didn't make the squad through injury and that Foakes isn't in it.  And that makes it look like he's not among the best three.  Are you suggesting there are other ahead of him too..?

Keeping isn't the sole criterion for selection in the England cricket team.  I didn't suggest it is.  It's one of them.  Certainly more important than height.

If you genuinely believe Adam Gilchrist is wrong, how would you try to convince him?

Marvellous and convincing counter-argument.  Well played.
  • All the while there’s quite a reasonable World Cup cricket game going on in Hampshire.
  • this innings is doing Root's confidence a power of good .. opening and standing up to the quickies, who incidentally, don't look as quick and dangerous as England's famous 5
  • I think that as the Op on this thread that i have to intervene on the Taylor wicket keeper 'discussion' that 1) Taylor cannot be the best keeper in the world without having kept to the likes of Archer and 2) This is a WC thread , and Taylor is not involved.

    So there.

    Lets talk about the WC.

  • WWWWWoakes at 3 .. nosebleed time ((:>)
  • Woakes !!! .. straight drive like Roy ((:>)

    Rules Foakes out then!

Out of respect to the topic of the thread, I'll desist in posting about Sarah Taylor, and just leave this picture for everyone. It's England's World Cup winning wicket keeper with the trophy.

many a true statement .. made in jest ((:>) .. when batting this season he just looks like a real player
  • When we had our opener troubles in OZ last year, Woakes was touted as a possible opener at the time.
  • West Indies looking very ordinary today when conditions don't suit their quicks
  • Just makes it even crazier that we had Woakes below an out of form Moeen
  • If I were Root I would ask the Umpire to request that Gayle removes his glasses when bowling due to the reflection off them giving the bowler an unfair advantage. I'm sure Gayle would oblige.
  • Good win that England.
    Well done.
  • The best batsmen are stepping up. It seems that all the best sides have a quality player who's not there to slog but can still bat briskly and hold the innings together
  • Root is top run scorer so far?
