Read that he's in a stable condition so hopefully not serious

Certainly one of the greatest Goalkeepers of recent years
  • There are loads of heart conditions that remain undetected - I would hope most footballers get thorough screening.

I hope he gets better soon.

Reports say he had an operation and will be out for the rest of the season

Surely if he has had a heart operation it would be to dangerous to play again

Surely that depends on the condition and severity?

Dazzler is right.  Depends on the damage to the heart.  A friend of mine is in his early 50s and is still bike racing after a heart attack a couple of years ago.

Not to mention he's a Goalkeeper

Not saying they're fitness levels are lower than an outfield player but guess they have to cover a lot less ground over a game at a lot slower speed (running)
  • Looks like the end of his career as he appears to have had a stent done.

Has announced his Retirement from football

Sensible decision but no way for one of the greatest Goalkeepers in recent years to bow out

Yes, a terrible way for someone who played more than a 1000 games to bow out, though happily at least he seems to have made a decent recovery

Aye, the best in the world at various points and the skipper for Spain teams that were some of the best to ever play the game.

Just glad he seems to be doing okay and has his health. His career had been in decline for a while, basically since Mourinho got ahold of him, but still, as you say, not the way you want to bow out.

Seems to have just come out as gay via Twitter.

You can only hope he is more comfortable being himself now. Much love Iker.

Tweet has been deleted and reports that it was a hoax are abound.
  • Pathetic if true, type of thing pissed 18 year olds do on their mate's phones, rather than something a grown man who should realise what effect it'll have should be doing.
  • He claims he was hacked, not sure why he would lie? Puyol also came out on Twitter, probably another hack. We live in a shitty time.

Did it as a poor joke.

Now backpedalling and pretending he was hacked.

Shows attitudes towards LGBT within football still isn't where it should be.
  • Apparently a joke.  What a pathetic & childish thing for a man in his 40's to do
  • Puyol's message was it's time to tell out story Iker. It seems to be some adolescence joke.
