Charlton asked the player and his agent to think of a number and then double it as Luke Varney signed his money-spinning, four-year deal at The Valley. In fact, go back to The Guardian's report last week and the story seemed to be that Varney and his man didn't even ask for the reported £20,000 a week. That's what they were offered. 'OK, where do I sign...' was the lad's response

You really believe that? Really???
What makes you think that some blogger with no known links to the club has got an inside side line on our transfer negotiations?
That's what will have everyone pausing and gulping hard before deciding whether or not they want to run a coach and horses through their existing wage structures in a bid to capture the next Luke Varney, aka Billy Sharp.
So the impression that everyone gets is that we are now the big boys (in the Championship) ruining sensible wage structures.
So here we have a Norwich City fan who's set himself up with a blog and maximised advertising revenue on a blatantly commercialised website.
This is an important personal income stream for him, like a private version of Teamtalk. Where does he get his information from? Evidently a bit cribbed from here and a bit from there - plus second-hand stories and gossip from the papers and other blogs. It's the way he gets people to visit his site and click on the advertising links - and lo!, he gets paid.
Have you seen anywhere authenticating Varney's wage?
I know I haven't. And no doubt he hasn't, either.
bingaddick (somewhere near...err...Norwich)
How many seasons has he spent in the Premiership?
One.
Oh.
('Jez'. Says it all)
